The Michelin-starred restaurant Maison Troisgros takes the spotlight at the FIFA

This year, don’t miss the documentary MENUS-PLAISIRS—Les Troisgros, which will be screened on Monday, March 18th at the Cinéma du Musée as part of the FIFA. The 42nd edition of the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) will take place in Montreal and Quebec from March 14th to 24th, with in-person screenings, and from March 22nd to 31st online.

The Troisgros Family Story

The Troisgros family saga began in 1930 when Jean-Baptiste and Marie opened the Hôtel des Platanes in Roanne. Their sons, Jean and Pierre, joined the kitchen in the 1950s and earned their first Michelin star in 1956. In 1968, they achieved three stars, which they have retained to this day. Today, César Troisgros officially holds the position of head chef. In the gastronomic world, few family establishments can boast the enduring reputation of Maison Troisgros, spanning four generations.

Maison Troisgros on the Big Screen

Renowned filmmaker Frederick Wiseman (recipient of an honorary Oscar in 2016 and a Golden Lion in 2014) takes us behind the scenes of Maison Troisgros, an iconic French gastronomic institution with three Michelin stars. While visiting friends in Burgundy, the director stumbled upon Les Troisgros while searching for a starred restaurant for the evening. After the meal, he asked Chef César Troisgros if he had ever considered making a documentary about the family restaurant, thus beginning the journey. Presented in Venice and Toronto, this documentary transports us from the market to the kitchens, showcasing cheese and wine production, offering insight into the philosophy and remarkable fluidity of this culinary institution.
