Some openings get people talking. And then there are those we’re already ready to crown as classics. This spring, the family behind Arthur’s Nosh Bar is setting up on Monkland with Arthur’s Dinette—a little sister designed for the neighbourhood, but carrying the same signature that made Saint-Henri buzz. Behind the project are Raegan Steinberg and Alex Cohen, the duo behind Romies, Arthur’s Nosh Bar, and Dirty Greens. With this new chapter, the couple delivers once again. Even before opening, the address promises to be a hit.

Why Monkland?

Choosing NDG is no coincidence. Having lived in the neighbourhood, Raegan and Alex felt the absence of a true local spot—a genuine home-away-from-home on Monkland. A place you can walk to, settle into, and return to often. Somewhere that echoes the small French bakeries and bistros that shaped their childhood memories along the avenue. Arthur’s Dinette aims to fill exactly that space. The neighbourhood is ready for a new staple.

Arthur’s Dinette, All Day Long

Good news for fans: the daytime menu will stay true to the spirit of the original Arthur’s. Expect favourites like the smorgesborg, eggs and salami, and the MacArthur. A few additions will set the new address apart, including Raegan’s beloved salads and possibly some Monkland-exclusive signature dishes—but the brunch DNA will remain intact.

It’s at sunset that everything shifts. Arthur’s Dinette will introduce an entirely distinct evening menu, exploring the Jewish culinary diaspora and Alex and Raegan’s roots. It’s a concept Alex has been developing for years and one that finally has its stage. He’ll be leading the kitchen—a role close to his heart—as he’s long wanted to fully express his culinary creativity without constraint. Among the dishes in development: a chicken liver tostada, the much-anticipated return of perogies (!), and a white fish topped with a house-made sauce. For those with a sweet tooth, think savoury doughnuts, cheesecake, and chocolate mousse. The menu will feature staples but evolve with the seasons, guided by inspiration and product availability. (We can’t wait to see the final lineup.)

Raegan describes Arthur’s Dinette as a true labour of love. The challenge? Creating a space that feels familiar to Arthur’s regulars while asserting a distinct personality. Alex and Raegan are aiming for something bright, family-friendly, ultra homey. A relaxed, delicious address. Two dinner seatings designed around the rhythm of the neighbourhood (5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.), with the idea that everyone is home by 11:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, in Saint-Henri…

In parallel, the Saint-Henri Arthur’s will temporarily close starting March 16 for approximately three weeks. The restaurant is getting a refresh—and expanding into the former Pizzeria Adamo space. The wait to return for those famous cottage cheese pancakes will likely be shorter than you think.

Arthur’s Dinette hasn’t opened its doors just yet, but one thing is certain: Monkland is about to welcome more than just a new restaurant. It’s a new home for regulars—and likely a future institution for the neighbourhood. We’ll keep you posted on the official opening date.
