New to Mont-Royal Avenue, in the former Le Pontiac space, Bincho brings a different vibe to the neighbourhood. This small Japanese-French fusion restaurant is already one of our favourite new date spots.

The décor by Bianca Jodoin sets the tone right away: pink-red lighting, a cozy, intimate atmosphere, and an enveloping warmth. The wooden chairs are beautiful, and the long bar makes you want to stretch the evening out. It’s sexy, but just enough. Clearly a date spot (major plus: you can actually hear each other talk!), but also a great place to gather with friends, order “just a few dishes,” and inevitably stay for a couple of digestifs. In the summer, the large terrace is bound to become a hot ticket.

The menu changes every two to three weeks — which we love. It keeps things fresh and gives you a reason to come back. The amuse-bouches were already strong: the warm oyster with miso and cheese — a full-on umami bite, rich, comforting, borderline addictive. On the opposite end, the cucumber salad with sesame and chili oil was ultra-fresh and super crunchy, with a bright, acidic dressing that delivered the perfect kick. But the real wow moment at Bincho? The binchotan-grilled hanger steak. Perfectly cooked, beautifully smoky, tender and juicy — what more could you ask for? It’s the kind of menu that makes you want to order everything, and the portions are thoughtfully designed for sharing. A few house cocktails and a solid wine list round out the offering.

Service at Bincho is warm and attentive — the staff take the time to walk you through the menu and offer thoughtful recommendations. As a bonus, prices are reasonable, something we appreciate more and more these days. The restaurant is open every evening, another definite plus.

Bincho checks a lot of boxes for a great night out. An address we’ll likely be adding to our regular dinner rotation on the Plateau. Cheers!
