Bar Mamie: Second Location on the Plateau
The team behind the beloved Beaubien spot, Bar Mamie, is opening a second location—while keeping what we love most about it: its warmth and convivial spirit. “Mamie Beaubien was a bit like the youngest child in the family. Here, it’s the teenager of the gang—more mature,” sums up owner Max Rosselin. Same DNA, but a deeper, more refined project.
Why a second Bar Mamie? It was simply the natural next step. A space became available, and after 15 years of living on Mont-Royal, it felt only right for Max to bring Mamie here. With the renewed energy on the avenue in recent years, the timing was perfect. Mamie Mont-Royal is still the kind of neighborhood restaurant we love: generous, approachable, and unpretentious. A place where nostalgic French expats feel at home—but above all, a spot open to everyone, from morning coffee to the last drink late at night. Yes indeed, the new Bar Mamie opens at 8 a.m. for coffee and breakfast, then keeps going until the wee hours! It’s a place where you can settle in solo with your laptop in the morning, gather with friends to share plates in the evening, or enjoy a date over a bottle of wine. The vibe is simple, easygoing—“à la bonne franquette,” as Max puts it.
The menu at the new Bar Mamie focuses on well-executed classics and shareable dishes, with prices ranging from $5 to $32—quite reasonable for the area. You’ll find charcuterie and cheese boards, a seafood platter, small plates to share… and our favorite: coquillettes with ham, leaning fully into nostalgia. The idea? Returning to comforting, simple homemade dishes that bring people together around the table.
At the bar, the project shows greater maturity. The cocktail list, distinctly French in spirit, features more elaborate house creations. The wine selection highlights natural and organic bottles, with offerings that change daily. And of course, just like on Beaubien, you can order wine by the glass “à l’averse” and let the team guide you.
The new Bar Mamie seats 65 and does not take reservations, except for groups of eight or more. The goal is to keep the space lively, accessible, and spontaneous. Drop in for a drink, stay for dinner—or the other way around. Every occasion is a good one to stop by Mamie.
The décor is absolutely beautiful: vintage, charming, full of character, with brick walls and plates hung on the walls reminiscent of our grandparents’ homes. At the back, a small fireplace adds even more warmth and comfort. In short, you truly feel like you’re at Grandma’s.
Good news for regulars: it’s the same team as on Beaubien—the same chef, the same sommelier, and the person in charge of Mamie’s wine cellar now leading things here as well. A continuity that ensures the same consistency on the plate and in the glass. You don’t change a winning recipe!
Just opened, and already a neighborhood go-to. Cheers!
