Le Marché Artisans: a gourmet stop in the heart of downtown

Open since November 2017 in the lobby of the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, Le Marché Artisans has established itself as the first epicurean market to open within a hotel in Canada. Spanning 8,000 square feet designed by Sid Lee Architecture in collaboration with New York–based consultant Peter Chase, the space offers 90 seats and brings together a gourmet grocery, on-site dining, and ready-to-eat options. More than 90% of the products come from Quebec and the rest of Canada, with a selection focused on authenticity, appellations of origin, and the work of small local producers.

Sweet, savory, and seasonal indulgences

At Le Marché Artisans, the sweet offering is particularly generous. There is a high-end in-house chocolate shop as well as a full pastry counter by Jean-Marc Guillot, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Among the treats are fruit charlottes, opera cakes, and, in season, Yule logs and galettes des rois. Those with a sweet tooth can also enjoy a crêperie, indulgent milkshakes, a tea boutique, and specialty coffees—not to mention a section dedicated to kitchen accessories.

On the savory side, the rotisserie serves flavorful chicken, alongside a charcuterie and cheese counter and house-made pizzas. For meals on the go, a selection of prepared dishes and sandwiches rounds out the offering. A fine grocery section featuring local products—jellies, chutneys, and artisanal jams—also allows guests to leave with a few well-chosen finds.

Beyond its gourmet counters, Le Marché Artisans also offers programming that enhances the experience. Culinary workshops are held regularly, and for those looking to pair art with gastronomy, “Brunch & Paint” sessions complement the weekend brunch. The market also stands out for its clear commitment to a responsible approach, notably through the use of eco-friendly packaging and compostable containers, as well as by highlighting products certified by Indigenous Tourism, with a portion of proceeds donated to the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal.

Few downtown addresses can boast such a showcase of local products. Marché Artisans stands out as a top gourmet stop, appealing both to locals and visiting guests—with everything needed to satisfy and keep people coming back.
