Bar Edicola: a new downtown spot from the team behind Bar Caffettiera

Bar Edicola

On August 22, the team behind Caffettiera launched a new project: Bar Edicola. At the helm are Andreas Vecchio (Caffettiera), his cousin and business partner Diego Lovino (Cloakroom), and Pablo Rojas (Provisions, Bar Dominion, Bertha’s). Together, they’ve created a beautiful downtown address that doubles as a café by day and a bar by night.

Before becoming Edicola, the space housed a magazine shop. As kids, Andreas and Diego would stop by every week to pick up their favorite Italian magazines. When they saw the space up for rent, they didn’t hesitate to take it over. To honor its past, they’ve even hung a few Italian magazines on the walls—a nostalgic nod to the former shop. “It’s a very nostalgic place for us,” they explain. That same sense of nostalgia carries through into the menu, built around comforting, well-executed Italian classics.

At lunchtime, guests can enjoy croissants, cornetti, and cookies, along with three sandwiches: mortadella with pesto, roast beef, or tuna with artichokes.

In the evening, the menu expands to highlight traditional Italian fare. Most offerings are small plates meant for sharing: fried artichokes with porcini mayo, stuffed olives, grilled eggplant, roasted peppers, marinated zucchini, pecorino sardo maturo with honey, and four varieties of bruschetta. For heartier appetites, there are also fresh pasta with house-made pesto, sausage with Neapolitan rapini, striploin steak with salsa verde, or lamb chops. Everything pairs beautifully with a signature cocktail or a glass of wine.

“This kind of place was missing in the neighborhood. There are lots of chains here, but few independents,” says Andreas. And he’s right—downtown is short on spots of this caliber. Bar Edicola is a superb addition to the area.

The décor, designed by Guillaume Ménard (Renzo) of Ménard Dworkind, reflects this identity: a warm, wood-accented dining room with earthy tones, contrasted by an open kitchen with a cooler, almost surgical design. “There’s a duality in the space that’s really unique,” notes Andreas.

You can stop by Bar Edicola in the morning for a cappuccino and croissant before work, at noon for an espresso and sandwich to go, or in the evening with colleagues for an apéro on the terrace—or for an intimate dinner at the bar with a cocktail and fresh pasta. Whatever the occasion or time of day, it’s always the right time to drop by Edicola. Auguri to the whole team!
