Equinoxe, chalets and Studios, Gaspésien bliss
Equinoxe, chalets and studios, a slice of Gaspésien happiness, along with several other delicious addresses in this stunning region. Beyond Montréal and its many exceptional spots, Tastet is always on the lookout for unique places to recommend. Today, our journey takes us to Gaspésie.
For a long time, Mathieu Caissy dreamed of creating a unique place to stay in his corner of the world. As co-owner of Construction Michel Maltais, he drew on his expertise and design sensibility to bring Equinoxe to life—a tourism project nestled in Miguasha, on the stunning Baie-des-Chaleurs.
In 2024, his idea became a reality: a chalet and four studios took shape, all located directly on the seafront. Here, simplicity and refinement come together. Each space has been designed to offer comfort and tranquility, with the sea as a backdrop and sunsets as a daily show. His partner, Katia Guité, added her personal touch to the interiors. From the choice of accessories to decorative details, everything has been carefully curated to create a warm, inviting atmosphere—somewhere you feel at home the moment you walk in.
The studios are perfectly suited for one person or a couple: a small equipped kitchen, dining table, sofa, cozy bed, and terrace with BBQ. For those who enjoy being outdoors, a shared waterfront space with tables and BBQs is available to enjoy meals while gazing at the sea. When the weather allows, you can even swim right in front of the property! Studios are available for a minimum two-night stay, ideal for friends or couples.
The Le Phare chalet is available for weekly rentals, from Saturday to Saturday, perfect for families or groups of friends. The entire site can also be booked to host unforgettable moments with loved ones—or even a wedding.
Just a 20-minute drive away, Carleton-sur-Mer completes the experience with several gourmet stops:
-
Brûlerie du Quai
An emblematic Carleton institution, Brûlerie du Quai is more than a café—it’s an experience. Their coffee, roasted on site with artisanal precision, ranks among the best in Quebec. They also offer a selection of award-winning fine chocolates. The décor, warm and inspired by Gaspésie’s natural beauty, invites you to slow down, sip a latte, and savor the calm. A perfect stop to start the day—or to pick up local treats to bring home. -
Tosca Ristorante Italiano
For a comforting meal in a convivial setting, Tosca is a sure bet. The menu features Italian classics prepared with care: fresh pasta, creamy risottos, and generously topped pizzas. The carefully chosen wine list ensures the perfect pairing for every dish. It’s the ideal spot for a cozy dinner after a day of exploring, where Italian generosity meets Gaspésien hospitality. -
Marin d’eau douce
Housed in a heritage property dating back to the 1820s, this restaurant is a true gem for food lovers. Just steps from the beach, it offers breathtaking views of the bay. Chef Mustapha serves refined French cuisine that is bright and sun-kissed, highlighting local products: fish, seafood, game, and regional meats. Each dish strikes a balance between Gaspésie authenticity and exotic touches. The experience is both gourmet and memorable, enriched by the historic charm of the building and the warmth of the team.
Whether for a romantic getaway or simply to unwind by the sea, the Equinoxe Chalets and studios offer a perfect balance of nature, comfort, and the art of living well. There is good availability for fall stays, with the season ending October 31, and the calendar is already open for 2026.
