Terraza Luz: Alma’s summer taquería
Terraza Luz, an open-air taquería in Outremont, is the summer pop-up not to miss. Led by Chef Juan Lopez Luna, Lindsay Brennan, and their team from Alma, this seasonal project stands out for its commitment to authentic Mexican cuisine that celebrates local ingredients and ancestral corn—a cornerstone of the chef’s culinary philosophy.
Open every weekend from May to October, from noon to 3 p.m., Terraza Luz serves a rotating selection of Mexico City–style tacos, prepared with organic corn that’s nixtamalized and freshly ground each morning. This heirloom corn, sourced from Tlaxcala and Oaxaca, is hand-pressed on site — resulting in some of the very best tortillas around. The menu changes weekly, featuring three different taco varieties, each made to order and cooked over a wood fire, a traditional method that imparts an unmistakable depth of flavor.
The atmosphere is warm, festive, and relaxed, perfect for sharing good times with friends. There are no reservations, and seating is limited to about 20 spots — so expect a short wait in the alley. To skip the line, it’s best to arrive before noon.
For dessert, don’t miss the conchas and other sweet treats from Mariana Martin du Carlota. To drink, Terraza Luz offers margaritas, mezcalitas, local beers, and natural wines.
This taquería is part of a larger vision from Chef Juan Lopez Luna, who is also behind the upcoming Bar Luz, opening next to Alma in the former Tinc Set space. The bar will offer a more intimate take on Mexican cuisine, featuring à la carte tacos, ancestral corn, and agave-based cocktails.
Terraza Luz is without a doubt one of the essential summer destinations in Montréal.
