Larrys is one of our favourite spots to visit at any time of the day, and its brunch is among the best in Montreal! This tiny little restaurant (about 30 seats) offers a perfectly balanced short menu. Beyond their top-notch brunch, Larrys is also on our list of the best tartares in Montreal. This place truly is one of the most versatile addresses in the city – it’s open from 8:00am until 1:00am, every day of the week! You can also check out Larry’s next door neighbour, Lawrence, which is another wonderful establishment owned by the same team.
The Best of the Mile End : our suggestions for bars, cafés and restaurants
Recognized as the artistic and cultural hotbed of Montreal, overflowing with creative energy, art galleries, vintage shops, music clubs and boutiques, the Mile End is a pretty funky part of town indeed.
The neighbourhood’s unique style really started to take shape in the early 90s when a former Anglican church was transformed into the Mile End library, opening up a public space for the artistic community to thrive. As the area became increasingly gentrified during the turn of the century, an increasing number of shops and boutiques opened up… and of course, restaurants, cafés and bars as well!
Nowadays, the Mile End is one of the most densely packed neighbourhoods in the city when it comes to good spots to drink and dine – it seems as if there is a new bar on every corner here! Many of our absolute favourite restaurants are in this area, some of which we love for their elegance and culinary excellence, others for their unique atmospheres and comforting food and drinks.
Whether you’re on a fringe art gallery tour of the neighbourhood, checking out the thrift stores or on the hunt to discover your new favourite local band, everyone needs to refuel with food and drinks. To help you discover the Mile End to the fullest, we have compiled this list of our favourite restaurants, cafés and bars!

Another of the top brunch spots in the city, Butterblume is the place to be on a Saturday morning! With a small cafe on one side and a larger dining room on the other, this address has a little something for everyone. The cuisine here is characterized by its freshness and the menu offers everything from small snack dishes like soups and salads to full meals. The brunch menu is only available from Friday to Sunday, but their breakfast and lunchtime menus are perfect for a mid-week treat! Butterblume has a short but sweet wine list available as well. We love this spot!
This address offers an exquisite contemporary tasting menu in the heart of the Mile End. Named after the owner’s favourite dessert and a reference to the island of Montreal, Ile Flottante is a well loved restaurant by locals. With high quality service, surroundings and food, you can always count on a pleasant meal at this address! There are three different tasting menus to choose from (3, 5 or 7 courses) all of which have a particular emphasis on vegetarian food. Accompanied by their wine list that focuses on small-scale producers, dinner at Ile Flottante is hard to beat!
Jun I is responsible for creating some of the best sushi in the city. We come here to treat ourselves to top quality sushi creations in a beautiful and comfortable space. On the menu, there are a few delicious and refined starters, a superb sushi and maki bar that is always in full swing, plus some house specialities which are determined by the seasonal products arriving from Japan. Jun I truly is exceptional, albeit at a cost, so if you have a special occasion to celebrate and are looking for excellent sushi, this is the right place for you. We highly recommend it.
Not only is Milos one of (if not the) best Greek restaurants in Montreal, it’s also among our favourite chic restaurants in the city! Since opening the first ever location of Milos in our city in 1979, the restaurant has gained a global reputation and now has kitchens dotted all around the globe. Luckily for us, the charms of the Montreal location have hardly changed from the day it opened, despite having undergone more than one significant expansion and remodel over the decades. We come here to eat extremely fresh and well prepared greek food in a simple yet beautiful space. This is definitely a “treat yo’ self” address because of the price tag, but it the experience is well worth the cost. A Montreal essential!
Let’s be honest here, one of things Montreal is most famous for is its bagels, and St-Viateur has had a huge role in fuelling that reputation. St-Viateur is a cornerstone of life for many Montrealers, and definitely has a notable presence in the Mile End. Whether you are a tourist or a local, St-Viateur bagels are an absolute must if you’re looking to experience the city to the fullest. Nothing trumps a fresh (still soft and chewy) sesame seed bagel on a Sunday morning… just see for yourself!
Falafel Yoni is an excellent falafel counter in the Mile End, and the perfect stop for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner break. Here, the falafels take centre stage in just about every dish (and we are so here for it!). Yoni is also home to one of the best Sabich sandwiches around town, and a great hummus dish that will satisfy any of the growing number of hummus enthusiasts. The space is modern, relaxed and comfortable… it’s a great spot to have in your back pocket for the next time you find yourself wandering through the Mile End!
