Located in the heart of Montreal, Hong Mère is more than just a restaurant. It’s a story of family, immigration, culinary passion, and authenticity. Yu and his parents opened the establishment on September 2, 2012, with the goal of offering Montrealers a true taste of northeastern China.

The journey of Hong Mère began with Yu’s parents, who immigrated from China and opened a Chinese buffet in Lachute shortly after arriving in Canada. A few years later, they closed their first restaurant and moved to Montreal. In 2012, they realized their dream by opening Hong Mère, an establishment that would become a benchmark for authentic Chinese cuisine in Montreal.

Initially, Hong Mère faced significant challenges, with a clientele primarily driven by word of mouth. But thanks to the family’s tireless efforts and their commitment to impeccable service and quality products, the restaurant quickly won the hearts of Montreal residents. The menu at Hong Mère is the result of hard work. Yu, who studied at the ITHQ to support his parents in the family business, helped shape a diverse menu that offers a true immersion into northeastern Chinese cuisine with Szechuan dishes. Traditional dishes reimagined into the restaurant’s unique creations, each bite at Hong Mère is an explosion of authentic flavors.

Among the menu highlights is the homemade spicy special sauce chicken, a unique creation of Hong Mère. It’s crispy, sweet, salty, spicy, and umami, everything you love! Also, the hand-made crystal noodles, served cold, are perfect for a lighter and refreshing option, especially during hot summer days. The black pepper beef and asparagus are also highly praised, as are the many spicy Szechuan dishes and vegetarian options offered.

Hong Mère is a bring-your-own-wine restaurant, offering a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a meal with family or friends. With generous portions and affordable prices, over the years, the restaurant has attracted a diverse clientele, transitioning from a primarily Chinese clientele to a more North American one, while still retaining its loyal core of Chinese customers. In the summer, Hong Mère’s terrace is the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy delicious dishes.

Whether you’re a fan of Chinese cuisine or simply curious to explore new flavors, Hong Mère promises you an unforgettable culinary journey in the heart of Montreal.

Restaurants open on Tuesdays

Finding a restaurant open on Tuesdays is becoming challenging. Some restaurants choose to take a break at the beginning of the week.
