Two Montreal Bars Ranked in North America’s 50 Best Bars

Atwater Cocktail Club St-Henri Bar montreal bar caché speakeasy

The world of bars and mixology enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as the 50 Best organization has just unveiled its annual list of the 50 Best Bars in North America. And this year, the Montreal scene is in the spotlight with two of its establishments making the prestigious ranking.

Cocktail enthusiasts are eager to secure their reservations, and bar owners are gearing up to welcome a surge of new customers. All of this can only mean one thing: the 50 Best organization has revealed its annual list of the 50 Best Bars in North America.

This year, the title of best bar was awarded at a ceremony on April 23rd in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City, led by Eric van Beek, claimed the top spot. The previous top spot was held by Double Chicken Please (now ranked seventh), a Manhattan cocktail bar serving creative drinks like the “Cold Pizza,” featuring parmesan, burnt toast, and tequila.

Two Montreal bars proudly made it onto the list of the 50 Best Bars in North America. Coming in at 39th place is the downtown hidden gem, Cloakroom. Founded in 2015 by Andrew Whibley, it’s an elegant 25-seat cocktail bar. No reservations or menu here; bespoke creations are tailored to guests’ preferences, with an exceptional selection of vintage spirits, particularly focusing on amaro and bourbon. And at 50th place, we have the Atwater Cocktail Club. Opening its doors in July 2016 behind the restaurant Foiegwa, it offers excellent cocktails in an intimate and quirky setting. The cocktail menu showcases elegant drinks with high-quality ingredients and refined techniques.
