- Grocery Store Counter
Located on Avenue Duluth in Montréal since June 2023, Dépanneur Comptoir is a neighborhood address that has evolved while staying true to the charm that has defined it from the beginning. Somewhere between a corner store, a specialty grocer, and a café, the space offers a thoughtful mix of everyday staples and more refined options, with a strong emphasis on local products.
A hybrid deeply rooted in its neighborhood
Behind Dépanneur Comptoir is Anthony Gebrayel, formerly of the now-closed Boxermans. By taking over the former neighborhood convenience store, he aimed to preserve the spirit of a place he had long cherished. With its concept bridging a local shop and a curated counter, the address has carved out a distinct place on the Plateau-Mont-Royal.
“I wanted to maintain the spirit of a dépanneur for local residents, at the same prices as any other corner store, while integrating products from local artisans into our offering,” explains Anthony.
Designed as a hybrid space, Dépanneur Comptoir brings together everything we love about a neighborhood convenience store, with a more refined touch. Alongside classic dépanneur staples, you’ll find a curated selection of products, as well as a deli-style counter featuring bread and viennoiseries from Automne bakery.
Dépanneur Comptoir has also increasingly embraced its identity as a neighborhood café, with more seating, a terrace in the warmer months, and an expanded food offering that includes sandwiches, soup, and daily specials. It’s just as suited for last-minute errands as it is for a coffee break or an impromptu lunch. Nitro house lemonade on tap and cold brew are also available—two particularly popular options when the weather warms up.
On the drinks side, the selection is just as impressive. “We carry local wines from a range of producers, ciders, and craft beers, while still keeping the fridge stocked with cases of beer, just as it always has been! (It’s been a dépanneur for about 100 years.) Duluth is also one of the Montreal streets with the highest concentration of bring-your-own-wine restaurants, making it the perfect location to offer a wine selection that complements the surrounding dining scene,” adds Anthony.
In step with Duluth Street
Dépanneur Comptoir is more than ever part of the Duluth Street ecosystem. Each year, several summer events take place as part of the street’s pedestrianization, offering a natural way for the shop to engage with neighborhood life.
Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee, stocking up a picnic basket, or putting together an apéritif, Dépanneur Comptoir is a go-to spot for local products, everyday essentials, and simple gourmet pleasures—all under one roof.
