Terrific Lobster Poutine
Those in the know say that poutine will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027. Day and night, the long lines of customers outside La Banquise and its thirty-some options, for example, speak to the passion for this quintessentially local dish.
Les délices de la mer, the excellent Gaspésie fish shop Les délices de la mer at Jean-Talon Market, is very busy in every season, and especially when lobster time comes around. Two of its dynamic managers, Christian Servant and Benjamin Atrous, had the equally excellent idea of offering a lobster poutine. Served in an elegant cassolette with cheese curds, homemade fries and a flavourful lobster bisque sauce, the dish is spot-on and can feed two people.
When it comes to poutine, the house also offers equally generous versions with shrimp or panko-crusted halibut, and of course simple traditional ones.
For now, the fish shop serves its poutines Thursday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Word of mouth from the food lovers who have come to enjoy this terrific lobster poutine should encourage the fishmongers to expand their hours and better signal this poutine’s presence. In the meantime, Tastet is telling you about it with enthusiasm.
