Since May 18, the Plateau has welcomed a playful and refreshing new address: Coquine, a festive, retro-style ice cream parlour serving up boozy frozen treats.

Behind this original concept is Anton Dutot, the founder of Tap Tap Cocktail, known for its mixology workshops in a hidden speakeasy in the neighbourhood. Anton also previously ran YAM, a charming Mediterranean sandwich shop located in the same space. “I’m rediscovering a new way to mix things — from the shaker to the ice cream machine,” he tells us. Having worked in ice cream shops in France, Anton wanted to bring together his love of frozen desserts and his passion for cocktails.

At Coquine, classic cocktail recipes are reimagined as house-made ice creams, infused with real spirits and made using natural ingredients. Through Anton’s creations, you can taste Aperol in a frozen twist on the classic Italian spritz, an espresso martini turned into a silky ice cream with tonka bean, a mango-chili sorbet spiked with tequila inspired by the margarita, or a cherry-amaretto flavour reminiscent of old-school ice cream parlours. You can even customize a house slush with a mini bottle of Prosecco or vino for a festive little upgrade.

But there’s more: Coquine also offers real fruit slushies, freshly blended milkshakes and smoothies, and kegged iced teas — with or without alcohol — for a refreshing break. There’s truly something for everyone, kids and adults alike.

Everything is made in-house with quality ingredients, and the flavours change with the seasons and Anton’s inspiration. When we visited, we fell for the vanilla-tonka twist with cherry-bergamot sorbet, and the “tropicool” sundae — a vibrant dessert bursting with pineapple, passion fruit, and mango coulis. But the showstopper was the pistachio s’mores ice cream: a creamy scoop wrapped in homemade marshmallow, torched right before our eyes. A moment as spectacular as it was indulgent.

As for the vibe, the interior channels retro-pop diner energy with a colourful, vintage décor. Outside, a swing-equipped patio lets you enjoy your cone with your feet in the air. Coquine is the perfect spot for an out-of-the-ordinary sweet break — and it’s sure to melt hearts all summer long.
