In 2025, Chez Victoire celebrates its 15th anniversary—an achievement worth highlighting in today’s restaurant landscape. We applaud their success.
“In fact, our goal with Chez Victoire was really to open a neighborhood restaurant—that’s why we put 21 seats at the bar! We wanted people from the neighborhood to be able to come for a bite, whether alone, as a couple, or in a group, no matter what,” explains Edward Zaki, co-owner.
Chez Victoire’s appeal has extended beyond just locals, now attracting a clientele from all over. The restaurant’s owners—Edward Zaki, Alexandre Gosselin, and Karl Leblanc—have done a great job creating a welcoming space where guests feel at ease.
The name Victoire was chosen as a nod to the artistic and historical roots of Plateau Mont-Royal. Victoire is a character from Michel Tremblay’s work—a lovable yet exasperating old woman. “We felt it was more human and inviting to name our restaurant after someone, so we chose ‘Chez Victoire,’” they explain.
Originally, Edward and his former business partner, Sindie (now living in Albi, France), knew each other from Confusion restaurant and had talked about opening something together one day. Chez Victoire first launched alongside the now-closed Hyper Taverne Edgar. Back then, Avenue Mont-Royal East was buzzing. “The neighborhood is still very lively—we love it. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, fruit markets, and cheese shops, which is exactly what we wanted.”
Chez Victoire welcomed its first guests in 2010. The space is open with a French brasserie feel. The bar plays a central role, the tables are mostly communal, there are many banquettes, and a private room accommodates groups of 30 to 50 people. For the restaurant’s 10th anniversary, the owners undertook significant renovations. The wine cellar is now a beautiful mustard yellow, and the formerly silver façade has been updated to an elegant black.
The menu at Chez Victoire showcases authentic local cuisine. Chef Alexandre Gosselin crafts a menu that places the restaurant among the best Québécois establishments in Montreal. He works with seasonal—and primarily local—ingredients, bringing creativity and precision to each dish.
The menu changes approximately every four weeks. Most dishes are priced around $40, with the exception of a côte de bœuf for two to three people at $140. Every Wednesday, the restaurant also offers oyster platters for just $1 each.
Chez Victoire also features a late-night menu available seven days a week from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., offering a choice of either an appetizer and a main course or a main course and a dessert for $29.
When it comes to drinks, Chez Victoire does not disappoint! The wine list, curated by Marc-Antoine Phénix, features a selection ranging from beautiful natural, organic, and biodynamic bottles to classic French wines from small, eco-conscious producers. Guests also appreciate that, in addition to wines from Quebec and Canada, the restaurant offers discoveries from all over, including Serbia, Austria, Italy, and Portugal.
For those in a festive mood, bartender and mixologist Olivier Martin has crafted a cocktail menu that caters to lovers of fine drinks.
Quebec products play a key role at Chez Victoire, both in the wine selection and the spirits on offer. “One of the things we love most here is our regulars who come two or three times a week.” The restaurant’s clientele is primarily made up of loyal patrons—a great sign because when a place is good, people naturally want to return. And at Chez Victoire, the experience is undeniably excellent.
With its locally inspired cuisine, commitment to responsible agriculture, and wine list that highlights Quebec and Canadian products, Chez Victoire has earned a spot on our list of Montreal’s eco-friendly dining destinations.
“Our clientele is truly wonderful. Our guests are happy to be here! Most people who come to try the restaurant end up returning because they had such a great first experience. We’re lucky. And it’s fun because we’ve managed to create a space where these returning guests end up meeting and getting to know each other.”
To properly celebrate its 15th anniversary, Chez Victoire is offering a three-course menu every Sunday for just $35.
What we love most about Chez Victoire is its warm atmosphere, the welcoming vibe of the house, not to mention its delectable menu and excellent wine selection. It has now earned a spot on our list of recommendations—whether for a Monday date night or a lively guys’ night out.
