The closure of the Dominion Square Tavern left a significant void in downtown Montreal and in the hearts of many food lovers in the city. The sumptuous space, vacant for over a year, now has a new purpose, a new name, and new owners. Introducing Bar Dominion!

For Pablo Rojas (Provision Bar à Vin and Le Petit Italien) and Andrew Whibley (Cloakroom), it’s an honour to take over the reins of this iconic location on Metcalfe Street. It’s a privilege they don’t take lightly: “We have a lot of respect for what our predecessors did here before us. Andrew and I are big fans of Alexandre Baldwin’s work. In my opinion, Taverne Square Dominion was the most beautiful restaurant in Montreal,” says Pablo.

To the regulars of Taverne Square Dominion: this new version is, above all, a bar. “We’ve created an environment where people can enjoy a drink after work, before a cultural event, or later in the evening. We’re particularly proud of our cocktail and wine offerings. There’s something for every taste and budget,” Pablo adds.

Cocktails, seafood, and refined small plates

The menu at Bar Dominion is simple but reflects the extensive experience of the new owners. It features classic and reimagined cocktails—martinis, negronis, spritz, highballs, sours, and more—along with a selection of beers and wines.

As for the food, they offer a “raw bar” concept: snow crab, shrimp cocktails, lobster, oysters with mignonettes, and more, which can be paired with small plates to share and some heartier main dishes (cheeseburger, ribs, steak frites). The more adventurous can opt for the “All-Inclusive” platter, a seafood tower featuring the latest catches.

Regulars of Provision Butcher Shop will be pleased to see some of their favorite items on the Bar Dominion menu, such as the Provision ham, served with figs and manchego.

Open every evening and for lunch from Tuesday to Thursday, Bar Dominion brings a fresh new offering to downtown—something it sorely needed—with a complete and accessible concept.
