- Restaurant Coffee shop
In the Laurentians, a charming spot serves coffee that was roasted right on the premises. That’s the signature of Nordik Café in Blainville, opened in 2019 by Pierre-Luc Carrière, a former chef who turned to roasting after discovering the craft at a bakery where he worked.
Brunch, All Day, Every Day
A few years ago, the kitchen narrowed its focus to a single idea: brunch all day, every day. The menu keeps to the essentials. The two eggs with sausage will please fans of the classics, the smoked trout on toast bets entirely on the quality of the product, and the steak and egg waits for those who arrive with a serious appetite. There’s also a very affordable kids’ menu that moves between a braised egg with ham and an apple pancake. The lineup shifts with the team’s cravings. Good news: gluten-free bread is available on request at Nordik Café.
Where the Bean Does the Talking
The real subject, though, is the bean. Nordik Café roasts only specialty coffee, bought from importers chosen for their transparency. You’ll find blends as much as single-origin coffees (one farm, one producer), and the label puts the provenance and the drying method front and centre. “Consume less, consume better,” sums up Pierre-Luc, who ties his shop’s name to a certain idea of nordicity: taking the time to do things well.
Classic Cups, and a Bag to Take Home
So of course, you drink very good caffeinated cups here. Espresso, latte, cappuccino… Nordik prefers to stay classic with its drinks, letting the coffee’s notes speak for themselves. A few cocktails round out the offering and let you stretch brunch a little longer. On site, you can pick up your bag of coffee — and other local products — in the small boutique section.
A Bright Room That Draws the Rive-Nord
The 42-seat room is full of light, warmth and life. In summer, a pretty terrace out front adds a few more seats. Wifi is offered at Nordik Café, unlike at the Sainte-Thérèse location: the crowd is mostly freelancers holding their meetings or colleagues grabbing a quick lunch. It’s also a great place to brunch with friends or family. Nordik takes reservations, and we recommend making one — especially on weekends, since it’s a very popular address on the Rive-Nord.
An unapologetic daytime address, where the coffee is treated as seriously as the plate. Happy discovering!
