The Best Addresses in the Eastern Townships
The Best Places to Eat in the Eastern Townships: A Foodie Getaway in the Region
Just an hour from Montreal, the best addresses in the Eastern Townships offer a perfect getaway between breathtaking landscapes and culinary discoveries. Nestled at the foot of the Pinacle, Sutton and Shefford mountains, these picturesque villages attract visitors in search of the outdoors and culinary pleasures. Although most travellers favour summer and fall to enjoy the blazing colours, we recommend this unique destination all year round. Whether under the snow in winter, hiking in summer or enjoying a glass on a terrace in spring, each season reveals a different facet of this fascinating region.
Among the must-sees, La route des vins deserves particular attention. It highlights the local producers who offer refined wines, to be savoured during a gourmet stop. But the best addresses in the Eastern Townships are not limited to their vineyards: you’ll also find a rich gastronomy, carried by the region’s artisans and producers.

Special Mentions
Pinôt Boutique Hôtel (Sutton) — Right in the heart of Sutton, Pinôt weds the intimacy of a guesthouse to the hushed comfort of a well-thought-out hotel. Behind the project, which opened in the fall of 2024: Florence Pelland-Goyer, a sommelier, and Véronique Lacoursière, inspired by a trip to Portugal. Breakfast included, apéros around the fire and “Cin Cin” evenings with guest chefs: a lovely gateway to explore the Townships, glass in hand.
Vignoble Joy Hill (Frelighsburg) — Perched at 300 metres of altitude on the Joy Hill slope, with a due-south orientation, Justine Therrien and Julien Niquet’s vineyard practises environmentally respectful agriculture and offers natural wines with very little intervention. In summer, you can also nibble on lovely bites of local products to savour with a glass right on the terrace.
Beat & Betterave - Nanobrasserie & Café
Beat & Betterave makes the cultural heart of Frelighsburg beat, thanks to its convivial and welcoming café, its show programming and its nano-brewery. The address has that little je-ne-sais-quoi that gives the impression of being served in the comfort of your own home, and where community spirit is at the heart of the owners’ vision. You go there for a coffee break, a refreshing beer brewed on site or a good meal with a view of Mont Pinacle.

Buvette Shiso
Since it opened this summer, set slightly back from rue Principale on Place du Commerce, Buvette Shiso has been gathering enthusiastic recommendations at a speed that makes you want to rush over. Behind the project is a trio well anchored in the area: Charles Massicolli and Benjamin Pen, who met in the kitchen at café Mifigue in Orford, and Dana Blumer, who spends her days at the Parcelles farm in Austin. That’s where the vegetables come from, and the short menu adjusts to the week’s deliveries. A lovely fresh and modern table, one to watch closely in the Townships.

Madame B
Wellington Sud is a street that was left behind for too long in Sherbrooke. However, schools, offices and now restaurants are springing up there, including Madame B. In this pared-down and airy space, we love to sit at the counter. The dishes are generous, accessible and put local products forward. The wine list is well-curated and the team’s recommendations always welcome. You can order dishes à la carte or let yourself be guided by a tasting menu. Don’t miss the caviste Wednesdays, which highlight very interesting products at small prices!
Sherbrooke
La Ferme - Brasserie Rurale
Open only during the summer season, the terrace of La Ferme is a haven of peace in Shefford. The brewery grows the hops and grains found in most of their beers, and the view over the fields is stunning. Able to accommodate nearly 300 people, it’s a perfect site for gatherings with friends or an afternoon with the family. Don’t feel like choosing which beer to drink? Get a tasting flight and find your favourite style! Follow them to know the opening and closing dates, which vary with the weather, but also to learn all about the comedy nights and the other cultural events they host!
Shefford
Café Yamabiko
This little café, set slightly back from the main street, is a haunt for locals. Take a look at their shop corner with their offering of bagged coffees and the always-beautiful merch. There are permanently two grinders with different types of coffee, which vary regularly. While the space may seem small on the ground floor with only the large table at the back, there are a few tables on the 2nd floor and on the terrace when the weather permits. In high season the traffic is often very heavy but, on quieter days, it’s a perfect place for a long discussion, to read or to work.
Sutton
Pixel nano resto
This restaurant lives up to its name. And yet, tons of things happen in this small space! During the day, you stop by for a coffee, brunch or lunch. La Réserve Naturelle - Caviste - Wine Shop
This small wine shop located on Sutton’s main street is a charming place. With its large selection of privately imported wines, ciders and other local products, it’s a must in the village. While many go there for 5-à-7 shopping, we prefer to sit down and have a glass or two on site. The little slate-board dishes are always simple, delicious and comforting, which makes it a place of choice for lunch or the apéro. Tons of events take place at La Réserve Naturelle, follow them to join the party!

La Knowlton Co. - Microbrasserie & Restaurant
This beautiful microbrewery’s concept comes down to its philosophy: “Life is rough, beer is smooth.” At the heart of the company is the idea of supporting the community. The name La Knowlton Co. is intimately linked to the town’s name, to make this space a gathering place with accessible beers that please everyone, both amateurs and connoisseurs. Behind the microbrewery, you discover a very beautiful, luminous glasshouse that serves as a wood-fired pizzeria, to offer visitors and regulars a double formula, both refreshing and gourmand.

Restaurant Le Hatley | Relais & Châteaux
Le Hatley is the restaurant of Manoir Hovey, a Relais & Châteaux on the lakeshore in North Hatley. The establishment welcomes you in an exceptional setting for a magnificent gastronomic getaway. Chef Alexandre Vachon offers a refined menu paying tribute to the Canadian and Quebec terroirs, taking advantage of the best that Quebec’s and Canada’s rivers, lakes, fields and forests have to offer. With his cuisine, the chef and his brigade aspire to protect biodiversity and reduce their carbon footprint. To do so, it’s within a radius of 20 to 30 km that the chef finds the inspiration for his constantly evolving menu and develops beautiful partnerships with producers in order to highlight their work. The manor’s garden also produces the fresh herbs and edible flowers that illuminate a varied menu, representative of the producers and their passion for their region and their terroir. Let yourself be tempted by the sumptuous food-and-wine pairings to make the gastronomic experience even better. This address is also part of our guide to the 101 must-visit spots.

Bistro Kapzak
This house is a Polish and Québécois fusion restaurant in Granby. A precursor of its kind, the restaurant is the first and the only Polish restaurant to use local products since its opening in 2011. Bistro Kapzak in a few words is a local chef, Polish roots and an unconditional love for the cuisine and products of the region. The restaurant’s fusion menu is an invitation to discover new flavours, to the great delight of our taste buds. You don’t come to Bistro Kapzak only for its delicious Polish-flavoured menu, but also for its expertise in mixology. A reflection of the food menu, the cocktail list draws on seasonality and puts the region’s flagship ingredients forward.

Vin Polisson
Vin Polisson is a member of the Aliments du Québec au menu program! This means it has made the choice to showcase Quebec’s wonderful products and our local producers on its menu — something we find admirable! Aliments du Québec au menu is a recognition program aimed at restaurants that value Quebec products in their cuisine. This address is also part of our guide to the 101 must-visit spots. We particularly recommend the apéro basket, available on site or to take away, in which cheeses, pâtés, charcuterie and breads sit side by side, all from local producers. There is also an excellent beef tartare, in which the capers have been replaced with local elderberries.

Café La Girouette
Taken over by new owners, Café La Girouette hides, beneath its village-stopover looks, a lovely bit of indulgence: generous breakfasts, house-made ice cream and sorbets, and pastries to take away to make the pleasure last well after the last bite. For lovers of the savoury, you’ll also find sandwiches and comforting quiches. And to go with all that, an exceptional coffee, roasted on site with love. An address worth the detour, whether you come from nearby or from much farther away.

Mifigue
Mifigue, opened in the summer of 2024 in Orford by Andréa Lemaire, is a real favourite. The name, a nod to the famous proverb “mi-figue, mi-raisin,” sums up Andréa’s approach well: a mix of simplicity and attention to detail.

Restaurant Aux 2 Clochers
It’s a new era for Aux 2 Clochers, one of the emblematic restaurants of Frelighsburg, which was taken over in October 2024 by Maxance Ferland and Julien Archambault-Leclerc, two well-known figures of the local gastronomic scene. A bistro that perfectly embodies the spirit of a country restaurant where you eat well, simply, and with a lot of heart.
Frelighsburg
Parcelles
“Parcelles is also full of little projects in my head. It’s the restaurant, the farm, maybe the vineyard or other projects one day! So it was an agricultural, wine-growing term that made a lot of sense for what we were doing,” recounts chef-owner Dominic Labelle. Parcelles is a Table Champêtre, which means the majority of the ingredients come from the farm. There you’ll savour a tasting menu where the emphasis is of course on the vegetable, but what a vegetable! This country table is also part of our guide to the 101 must-visit spots.

Porcine
In the shade of the apple trees of the Choinière cidery, in the magnificent Frelighsburg region, hides a country address worth the detour: Porcine, a summer cantine with a gentle atmosphere and frank flavours, where you eat directly in the heart of the farm.
