In the shade of the apple trees at Choinière cidery, in the beautiful Frelighsburg region, a countryside address worth the drive hides away: Porcine, a summer canteen with a gentle mood and honest flavours, where you eat right in the heart of the farm.
Open in summer only, Porcine welcomes visitors on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, by reservation only, and with a maximum of 10 people per hour, to keep the experience intimate, friendly and relaxed.
The project was born of the friendship between Gabriel Choinière, owner of the cidery of the same name (open since 2018), and chef Guillaume Harcc-Boutin, who we’ve also seen over at Parcelles, one of our favourites in the Townships. Together, they dreamed up a farm-to-table kitchen, delicate and generous, drawing on what the land and the animals raised on site have to offer.
On the menu: sharing plates, both vegetable and meat dishes, served at the table, with the option of adding a few extras like house charcuterie or a dessert. Everything is cooked from ingredients out of the vegetable garden or from the farm’s own animals, where hens and pigs are pasture-raised. It’s all enjoyed outdoors, right in the orchard, or on a covered terrace if it rains.
On the drinks side, you’ll of course find the house ciders, along with a good selection of wines and beers to round out the experience.
Quiet, simplicity, a warm welcome and pastoral landscapes: Porcine is the place to slow down, eat well and reconnect with the land. You can also book the venue for private events, outside regular opening hours.
A summer address to seek out in the Eastern Townships.
