Bar Otto, located on Notre-Dame Street West, strikes a perfect balance between conviviality and the elegance of contemporary Japanese cuisine.

Behind this refined address are Hanhak Kim, Daphné, and Vien, who continue their mission to blend sophistication, simplicity, and the joy of sharing. In the kitchen, Chef Yutaka Abe offers a delicate and thoughtful menu that gives pride of place to the finest seafood. His cuisine—both refined and comforting—draws inspiration from Japanese traditions while following the rhythm of the seasons and the best daily catches.

Standout dishes include the chef’s sashimi, impeccably fresh, and the crispy karaage chicken served with yuzu mayo. Don’t miss the mazemen—Japanese noodles without broth—served here in decadent versions; our favorites are the mushroom and truffle, rich and deeply satisfying.

From the team behind Otto Yakitori (opened in 2016) and Momiji, the Otto Group showcases its maturity and mastery here. Bar Otto embodies the perfect harmony of expertise, consistency, and evolution.

On the beverage side, Maureen Rouge has curated a thoughtful and character-driven wine and sake list. Between natural wines, artisan bottles, and exceptional sakes, each pairing enhances the Otto experience with subtle precision.

Japanese Essence, Montreal Soul

The décor, designed by Israël Noël of Architecture Synthèse, beautifully captures the spirit of contemporary izakayas. The space combines clean lines, light wood, and soft lighting to create an atmosphere that’s both intimate and welcoming. Artwork by Dan Climan adds an artistic touch, while a cozy back room evokes the hidden corners of traditional Japanese restaurants. At the front, the open kitchen invites guests to admire the chef’s precise work. In summer, the garage doors open, extending the conviviality out onto the street.

Rooted in the Little Burgundy neighborhood, Bar Otto remains a benchmark for elegant, vibrant, and nuanced Japanese cuisine. It also ranks among Montreal’s best Japanese restaurants.

A must-try!
