A breath of fresh air is blowing through Sainte-Catherine East with the opening of Tamisé, a cozy-chic new sushi restaurant already promising to become a local staple. A nod to iconic Sata Sushi, once one of the most trendy spots in the neighbourhood, this restaurant reclaims the art of sushi in a setting that’s relaxed, intimate, friendly, and gently nostalgic.

At the heart of the project is Tania Morrison, an interior designer known for her stunning work on Motel Ontario, Ratafia, and Mélisse, among others. Deeply involved in the community, Tania is a true multi-talent. Former owner of Sata and now at the helm of the sustainable furniture shop LOVACO, she was given free rein by her partners to design the look of Tamisé.

You’ll often find her in the evening behind the counter in the open kitchen, torching sushi and perfecting every detail with her team. She already hints at new creations in the works, with a menu designed to evolve over time.

By her side is Michael Galvao—a familiar face from the Sata days—who brings egregious energy and heartfelt passion to the dining room. Sitting at the bar and listening to his wildly entertaining stories, we happily followed his recommendations—and highly suggest you do the same.

Joining the duo is Stéphanie Gagné, who has strong experience in both hospitality and marketing. A wine enthusiast, she curates the short but refined wine and sake list, primarily sourced from private imports. Blending classics with natural wines, the selection will continue to expand over time.

The team collaborated to develop a cocktail menu that also includes a great selection of mocktails, highlighting the Apéro à Zéro product line.

Torched Sushi and Other Classics

Tamisé proudly offers torched sushi—a signature dish from the Sata days—while maintaining a unique identity of its own. In addition, you’ll find a few vegan sushi options and revisited classics. Standouts include the tartare makis, torched scallops, and torched tofu topped with homemade spicy mayo—creamy and indulgent. The team also aimed to elevate the experience with subtle touches like privately imported soy sauces. The menu is simple, accessible, and well crafted.

Tania—who recently launched Collab Collectif, a project dedicated to showcasing Quebec creators in a space within LOVACO—made it a point with Tamisé to highlight local businesses. Among them: La Terre du 9, offering a black garlic soy sauce, and Matière Bussière, whose local granite stones elegantly serve as sushi platters.

Flooded with natural light, the space is airy, dotted with plants and carefully selected elements. A wooden sailboat nestled in the wall-mounted bookshelf and large woven pendant lights set the tone. Up front, a small area with stools accommodates takeout customers who are already flocking in, while long church pews structure the main dining room, offering a warm layout for groups (up to 14 guests!).

Tamisé is not just a welcome addition to the East’s food scene—it’s a restaurant that uplifts the Hochelaga landscape. Come for the accessibly priced sushi in a gorgeous setting, and return for the energy of a team that’s passionate, authentic, and deeply rooted in the neighborhood.
