Luciano Trattoria opened its doors in November 2015 on Rue Saint-Zotique, in the La Petite-Patrie neighborhood. The charming neighborhood restaurant, which ranks among Montreal’s best Italian restaurants, offers its guests a variety of pastas and antipasti that invite you on a journey to Italy.
Before opening his own establishment, Luciano D’Orazio worked as a chef at the restaurant Vinniza. “When I left Vinniza, I didn’t have all my clients’ numbers. I named my restaurant Luciano so they’d know it was me! And they found me.” With this restaurant, the name Luciano thus became a kind of beacon, signaling to lovers of good Italian food that Luciano D’Orazio is still present on Montreal’s culinary scene and can be found on Rue Saint-Zotique.
And so Luciano Trattoria was born. Luciano wanted to stay close to Little Italy. Located in a former garage, his restaurant makes full use of the former business’s distinctive features. Three large garage doors, open on sunny days, look directly onto Rue Saint-Zotique. The restaurant also offers a lovely and cozy little terrace, accessible from inside the restaurant or from the street. In fact, this address is featured in our guide to Montreal’s most beautiful terraces.
Inside, you’ll find an airy, open, and simple space with a touch of warmth that makes the restaurant particularly pleasant. The wood used in the tables and counters is echoed on the restaurant’s walls, giving it an unexpected atmosphere in a space otherwise dominated by concrete. Another small decorative detail: Luciano’s chairs, in a variety of colors, bring the space to life and give it energy. It’s attractive, clean, and relaxed.
People come here for the warmth of the establishment, but also for the food, which is simply delicious! The menu is of course the work of Luciano D’Orazio. It is fairly concise but very refined — everything on it is delicious. Luciano wanted to offer his customers classic Italian dishes prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and he has succeeded perfectly.
You’ll find six antipasti choices — carpaccio, osso buco, mozzarella di bufala, etc. — seven types of pasta, plus one fish option and one meat option. A meal runs about $50 per person. A personal favorite: the gnocchi — absolutely delicious! Luciano even tried to remove them from the menu to make room for other dishes, but without success. A victim of their own popularity, the gnocchi are constantly requested by regulars. Luciano Trattoria also offers a wine list put together by Ange Forcherio, who previously spent 10 years as sommelier at restaurant Toqué! Ange will undoubtedly be able to recommend a wine to your taste.
Try their excellent osso buco-stuffed ravioli recipe available on our website — a recipe that pairs beautifully with a Brunello di Montalcino!
What we love about Luciano Trattoria is the authenticity of its cuisine. The dishes are so simple, yet so flavorful! You truly taste the flavors of Italy in a charming and welcoming setting. A little gem of Italian cooking well worth trying.
