As the city’s restaurants, cafés, and bars put the chairs on the tables for the second time this year, a great new address appeared in Westmount. Opened just two weeks ago, Gentile Pizza Parlour is the new pizzeria that the neighbourhood is flocking to.
The Gentile institution
You’ll probably recognize the name Gentile because it’s the name of their two cafés—which are institutions in the city. One is on Parc Avenue, and the other is right next door to the new pizzeria. Just like the address next door, it was the second generation—Anthony Gentile Jr, Paolo Gentile, and Anna Maria Gentile—who opened this new addition to the Gentile brand. The Gentile family’s great attention to detail is evident here, and can be appreciated in every corner of the new location. From the generous menu developed with the finest products, to the decor that leaves you speechless, to the service that is as charming as Italy, Gentile Pizza Parlour has it all.
“We just can’t wait to be able to welcome and serve people in our restaurant,” says the owner with emotion. Anthony is a restaurateur as we like them: with a passion for entertaining, an eye for detail, and above all, a desire to make his loyal clientele happy.
Opening in the middle of a pandemic was quite a challenge that the beautiful team took up with brio.
The space
Zébulon Perron once again designed the magnificent space. As he knows how to do so well, he has created a universe that makes you travel to another place and another time; a setting that makes you dream a little in these uncertain times. For the moment “we only touch with our eyes” but the dining room is more than ready to receive their beautiful clientele as soon as the restrictions are lifted. Gentile Pizza Parlour is the New York of the 80’s with just the right amount of retro and elegance. The beautiful painting is the result of a collaborative effort; Anthony had a vision, Zébulon made it a reality. “It’s a bit of a nostalgia trip, an exercise in memory,” explains the designer.
The food
In the kitchen, head chef Nelson Maceira and Daniel Krystal, with his 12 years of experience in the kitchen, present a delicious menu and some of the best pizza in town. The menu is presented in three categories. First, the appetizers: chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, Caesar salad, and more. Second, the pizza offering is divided into two categories: the 16-inch pizza or the square Sicilian “Brooklyn Style” pizza. The house favourite is the white truffle and seven cheese pizza at $34; ricotta infused with cipollini onions, house blend of asiago cheeses, taleggio, and truffle honey. We couldn’t agree more! To finish your meal properly, they offer two decadent desserts; a “sexy soft serve ice cream” garnished with a lemon and pistachio biscotti, and a banana and coconut cream pie with a chocolate crust. Divine!
At the moment, the menu is obviously only available for take-out, but we look forward to the full experience in their beautiful space very soon.
The drinks
To drink, the team has a short list of classic cocktails in the works, with a focus on Italian favourites; Negronis, Amaretto Sours, Bellinis, and more. The house also promises an à la carte signature cocktail at all times.
For those who are more wine than cocktail, Daniele Battaglia—who manages the alcohol menu—will also have a small selection of organic wines from France, Spain, and Italy.
A future meeting place
In the near future, Gentile Pizza Parlour will be a place to socialize, meet people, and savour delicious pizza with a cocktail in hand! For the moment, we are happy to be able to enjoy their delicious pizzas to take-out or delivery.
Congratulations on the new opening!
