Tucked into a sleek, thoughtfully designed space by IVY Studio, Muni offers a unique experience in Montreal — where laid-back dining, festive cocktails, and semi-private golf simulators come together in a vibrant, inclusive environment. Open since December 14, 2024, Muni has quickly become a go-to spot for casual sports lovers and fun-seekers alike.
From the Green to the Plate
At the heart of the project is Émile Ménard, a lifelong golfer who competed professionally before returning to Montreal with a clear vision: to create a place where people could play, eat, and gather — no matter the season or skill level. Coming from a family rooted in the agri-food world, Émile sought to combine his two great passions — golf and food — in a warm, accessible, and community-driven concept.
Together with partners Peter Mant, Max Ruiz-Laing, and chef Liam Barron — all known for their involvement in various acclaimed ventures — he envisioned a space far removed from the elitist country club. Instead, Muni pays homage to municipal courses: those often-overlooked public golf spaces rooted in accessibility and community. The name “Muni,” short for “municipal,” reflects the mission to make the sport more inclusive — all with a stylish, modern twist.
Southern Comfort Food Meets Southern-Inspired Cocktails
In the kitchen, chef Liam Barron serves up a generous and flavorful menu inspired by Southern U.S. cuisine — think ribs, cheeseburgers, steak, fried chicken, hush puppies… The kind of food that brings people together and hits the spot, especially with a drink (or two) in hand.
The cocktails follow suit: Southern-inspired, refreshing, and aromatic, designed to pair just as well with a round of golf as with a laid-back dinner among friends.
Here, the restaurant isn’t an afterthought to the sport — it’s central to the experience. The dining room and simulators are fully integrated, creating a fluid, energetic space where whether you’re playing or not, you’re part of the action.
A Social, Inclusive, and Festive Space
With semi-private simulators, Muni welcomes both beginners and seasoned players to practice or just have fun — no pressure, just play. Golf clubs are provided, and you can order food and drinks directly from your simulator. For non-golfers, it’s just as fun to hang out, enjoy the vibe, and indulge in the food and drink.
It’s also a great spot for group gatherings — birthdays, bachelor parties, corporate events — all in a setting that’s stylish without being stuffy.
A spot that hits the sweet spot (we know, not our best pun — but you get the idea!) — and well worth checking out, golfer or not.
