In Val-David, MacTaverne has the charm of those places where you settle in comfortably… and find it hard to leave. Here, timeless classics are celebrated: a perfectly poured Guinness, a well-crafted plate, and sincere hospitality. Simple, warm, and just right—the kind of pub you make your own.

A Family Affair

MacTaverne is very much a family project. Tim Robertson (formerly of Barroco Group, Hiatus, Sora 45, and Rose Orange) leads the vision, the bar, and the wine program. His wife, Lindsay Hughes (also ex-Barroco Group), oversees HR and guest experience, ensuring the warmth that defines the place. In the kitchen, Tim’s brother Mike Robertson (ex-Parasol, Hotel Herman, Beba) sends out hearty, perfectly executed dishes, supported by his partner, pastry chef Jennifer Nguyen. And behind the design and the drive are Lynne and Craig Robertson, the parents, who provide both momentum and coherence.

On the Plate

The kitchen at MacTaverne champions timeless dishes, executed with precision: fish & chips (impeccable!), scotch egg, tavern burger, and fine cuts of beef sourced from David and Philip Farm. As the seasons shift, Mike crafts plates around what his local farm partners bring in. We had the pleasure of tasting his tomato, peach, and shiso salad—an absolute delight! It’s honest, seasonal, and thoughtful cooking: comforting fare that respects the ingredients. And don’t leave without one of Jennifer’s desserts—her Sticky Toffee Pudding is pure decadence.

To Drink

At the bar, the pub spirit reigns supreme: great beer, well-balanced cocktails, and a smart, curated wine list. Tim’s seasonal cocktail creations are particularly inspired and delicious.

We fell hard for this place because MacTaverne isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—it’s perfecting it. People come here for the sharp execution, genuine warmth, and that atmosphere that makes you say, “Another one?” And to top it all off, you can extend the experience by staying upstairs at the inn. Breakfast there is just as flawless as everything else—promise!

MacTaverne Auberge + Pub is a heartfelt project built by—and for—people who truly love to host.

Enjoy the discovery!
