Dur à Cuire: a great “Bring Your Own Wine” spot on the South Shore

Located on Saint-Jean Street in Old Longueuil since 2013, Dur à Cuire has established itself as one of the South Shore’s must-visit “Bring Your Own Wine” restaurants. “The name Dur à Cuire reflects the house’s attitude and the bold, straightforward spirit of its cuisine,” explains Georges Blais, owner and chef of the renowned Les Canailles in Hochelaga, one of Tastet’s favourite BYOW restaurants.

At the helm since 2019, chef Karl-Anthony Cacchia offers bistro-style cuisine rooted in seasonality. The restaurant features around twenty seats on the terrace and nearly 80 indoors—an ideal space for hosting large groups during special events. The open kitchen, which gives direct access to guests, greatly contributes to the venue’s atmosphere. It allows diners to follow the rhythm of plates being prepared and creates a lively connection between the kitchen and the dining room.

The restaurant offers generous, comforting cuisine, where the products are well-handled and put forward. Among the untouchable classics on the menu are the seared foie gras starter with wild mushroom tart, sharp cheddar and veal glaze, as well as the braised beef cheek served with pierogies, chimichurri and sour cream—two must-tries for many regulars.

The ambiance at Dur à Cuire is lively without being noisy, ideal for a romantic dinner, a gathering with friends or a meal at the counter to fully soak in the kitchen action.

It’s no surprise that this address is among the favourites of Longueuil mayor Catherine Fournier. It has everything we love in a great bistro: hearty plates, a vibrant atmosphere and prices that make you want to come back.

Just bring along your favourite bottle and you’re sure to have a wonderful evening.
