Opened in mid-2024, Le Rusé, located at the corner of Bellechasse Street and 1st Avenue, proudly displays the tagline “Neighbourhood Café” beneath its name. And that’s exactly how Le Rusé should be seen. Judging by the patrons comfortably settled in on the day of our visit, the mission seems to be a resounding success. A student sipping coffee while working on a laptop; friends enjoying their beverages—one savouring a bold espresso, the other a frothy mochaccino; a couple sharing a sandwich and an empanada.
Le Rusé is the brainchild of two dynamic young men with impeccable taste. Ray Manus, who brings years of experience from the prestigious Club Chasse et Pêche and as a private sommelier and wine representative, manages Le Rusé. His partner, Karl Grignon, a general contractor, designed this charming space. Together, they transformed a somewhat run-down convenience store in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie into a welcoming haven.
The result is remarkable. Le Rusé offers a wonderfully inviting atmosphere, quickly becoming a favourite spot for locals. Large windows on both streets bathe the space in generous natural light, while the chic yet understated décor, with plenty of wood accents, adds to the charm. The café serves delicious coffee and a variety of small bites, including croissants, muffins, sandwiches, and more. Le Rusé even offers select takeaway dishes from Il Miglio.
Our top picks? The halloumi sandwich and the sausage sandwich. Both come with perfectly seasoned toppings and are served on impeccably toasted bread. The portions are truly generous, ideal for sharing while still satisfying.
In a neighbourhood where good cafés and eateries are few and far between, Le Rusé fills the gap perfectly. It’s a place you’ll want to visit—and revisit—with great pleasure.
