Maison Café: Indulgent Coffee and Matcha in LaSalle

LaSalle just gained an address it was missing. Maison Café set up shop in a neighbourhood where polished independent cafés are few and far between, and word of mouth did the rest! When we visited, the place was full, lively, and the line clearly wasn’t deterring anyone.

The project is led by a team that wanted to offer the area a true third place — neither corporate nor anonymous. The idea: a neighbourhood café where you can stop in for five minutes for an espresso or linger over a matcha for an hour, alone or with someone.

The concept is concise but skilfully executed: a menu of signature drinks, each available in either matcha or coffee. This flexibility gives customers latitude and lets the café showcase its creations across two registers. The result is a menu that genuinely stands out from the rest. The banana bread matcha is a little gem, smooth and round on the palate, and it truly tastes like banana bread! The cookies and cream latte is delicious and serves as a fully embraced liquid dessert. The French toast latte plays in the brunch-comfort register in beverage form. And the strawberry shortcake matcha is one of the house’s bestsellers, with good reason! It must be said that most of the signature drinks will appeal to those with a sweet tooth.

On the food side, Maison Café stays true to the neighbourhood café format: viennoiseries, a genuinely good house-made banana bread, and a few bagels served as sandwiches for those who want a light bite.

The decor is pared back, industrial-inspired, with plenty of exposed concrete: understated, bright, and uncluttered. Despite its neutral look, the place has plenty of life and charm.

It’s the kind of address that went viral on social media as soon as it opened. Trendy drinks, an offering that speaks to a younger crowd, a fashionable decor… But honestly, we were charmed. The creations are well balanced, the syrups and foams are house-made, the matcha is high quality, the presentation is polished… What more could you ask for?

For LaSalle, which didn’t have many spots of this kind, it’s a very welcome addition! The type of place a neighbourhood only realizes it needed the moment it opens.
