Racine Créole is, above all, a human story — the family adventure of Lindsay, a trained special education worker, joined by her brother, her partner, and other family members. Before opening this Haitian restaurant on Boulevard des Laurentides, Lindsay worked with youth facing challenges in the school system. Her path naturally led her to make Racine Créole an inclusive and welcoming space, where everyone has a seat — both at the table and on the team. Her brother, an experienced cook, and her partner, the entrepreneurial spirit of the trio, jumped into the project without hesitation. They had been toying with the idea of starting a family business for some time. When they saw the available space, they knew it was their chance.
“There are a lot of Haitian takeout spots in Laval, but very few sit-down restaurants where you can really take your time and enjoy,” Lindsay explains. That desire to create a gathering place for good Creole food is evident in every detail. The decor is simple but thoughtful, the vibe is relaxed, and the sound of kompa music adds to the warm atmosphere.
And on the plate? It’s a true celebration of Haitian classics, prepared with care and generosity.
Among the must-tries, the traditional griot is an obvious standout: marinated pork, perfectly fried, served with riz collé (rice and beans), salad, and delightfully crispy bananes pesées (fried plantains). You can even order it in a family-size platter! The tassot cabrit — tender and flavorful goat meat — is a personal favorite. Special mention goes to the chicken wings, glazed in homemade barbecue sauce: juicy, addictive, and satisfying. There’s also a whole fried red snapper, golden and crisp, ideal for sharing. Don’t forget to add a side of pikliz, a typical Haitian condiment made of spicy pickled cabbage, carrots, and chili peppers — it’s the perfect zingy counterpoint.
The portions are generous, with every plate accompanied by your choice of rice, house salad or macaroni, and fried plantains. For the more indulgent, Racine Créole also serves up griot poutine, Haitian patties, acras (malanga fritters), saucy ribs, and even a delicious cheesecake to end on a sweet note.
It’s a great lunch spot, known for its hearty portions and flavorful dishes — perfect for a quick meal that never compromises on quality.
Racine Créole feels like home — a place where you’re welcomed like family. It’s a heartfelt tribute to Creole cuisine, brought to life by people with heart.
