Petit Poisson Bistro: a convivial and festive Chinese dining experience

Petit Poisson Bistro

The team behind Petit Poisson Dumpling (which we’ve loved since their early days on Saint-Laurent) has just launched a brand-new project on Sainte-Catherine West, and we’re already won over. Petit Poisson Bistro is their vision of a convivial Chinese bistro, designed for long evenings with friends and endless shared bites.

The concept is simple and effective: a menu of shareable plates inspired by the flavors of Chinese cuisine, with, of course, a few variations of their famous dumplings that first made the restaurant popular. You order several dishes, place them in the center of the table, and everyone digs in. It’s generous, flavorful, and above all very affordable—the kind of place where you can indulge without thinking twice.

Beyond the dumplings, the menu offers some delightful surprises. We have a soft spot for the cold peanut noodles, both fresh and comforting, with a lovely balance between crunch and the creamy richness of the sauce. The ribs are also a must—tender, well seasoned, and perfect for sharing. And for those who like a little kick, the kung pao chicken brings just the right amount of heat and character. On the drinks side, the selection is thoughtfully curated, with a great list of sakes, Chinese and Japanese beers, and a few wines that pair beautifully with the food.

As for the décor, the team has created a truly inviting space. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, with soft red lighting, hanging lanterns, and touches of Asian art that give the room plenty of character. It immediately feels cozy—almost as if you’ve been transported elsewhere, far from the bustle of Sainte-Catherine Street.

Another strong point: the opening hours. Petit Poisson Bistro is open seven days a week, and from Thursday to Saturday the kitchen stays open until 2 a.m. At last, a great late-night option—a place where you can sit down after a show, a night out, or simply because a late-night craving strikes. Good spots open late are becoming increasingly rare in Montreal, and this one is well worth the visit.

Whether for a relaxed dinner with friends or a well-deserved late-night bite, Petit Poisson Bistro is already shaping up to be a spot to remember on Sainte-Catherine West. Take our word for it: go with friends, order generously, and let the atmosphere carry you.
