Where can you eat a good tajine in Montreal?
We’re sharing a list of the best places in Montreal to enjoy outstanding tajines.
An emblematic dish of the Maghreb, tajine is much more than a simple slow-cooked stew: it’s a symbol of sharing, patience, and generosity. Its name comes from the earthenware dish with a مخروط-shaped lid in which it gently simmers, allowing spices, vegetables, and meats to release their full depth of flavor. At the crossroads of Berber, Arab, and Andalusian influences, tajine tells a rich culinary story — rooted in tradition yet always open to interpretation.
In Montreal, tajine has found fertile ground. Across several neighborhoods, restaurants are showcasing this iconic dish, each with its own personal touch. Some focus on timeless classics — chicken with olives and preserved lemon, lamb with prunes and almonds, kefta with eggs — while others explore equally delicious vegetarian versions, where chickpeas, squash, and fragrant spices take center stage. What you’ll always find is that captivating aroma of ras el hanout, cumin, and coriander that whets the appetite from the very first bite.
What we particularly love about tajine is its ability to bring people together. Served piping hot at the center of the table, with bread for generous dipping, it invites you to slow down and savor the moment. At Tastet, our mission is to help you discover great dishes — but above all, to help you create great moments. Sharing a tajine means sharing comfort with the people you love. It’s a comforting dish: rich without being heavy, complex without being pretentious.
In this list, we’ve gathered our favorite spots to enjoy the best tajines in Montreal — from authentic eateries to more contemporary tables — to guide you toward experiences that are as warm as they are fragrant. Bon appétit!

Au Tarot is one of those hidden gems close to home that we’re always happy to tell you about. We’ve been eating here for a long time, and the cooking remains as thoughtful and delicious as ever. Behind its modest façade, you’ll find joyful dishes that beautifully represent Maghrebi cuisine — including their famous tajines. The menu features five varieties: lamb with prunes, fish, chicken with olives and preserved lemon, duck with green peppercorn, and braised veal.

Darna Bistroquet
Darna Bistroquet is a lovely little neighborhood restaurant where it’s always a pleasure to stop in — whether for a full evening out or just a casual apéro. For Selma and Otman, the goal is simple: to welcome guests in a warm atmosphere, just as is customary in the culture of their native Morocco. The dishes are delicious, designed for sharing, and evolve with the seasons. At the moment, the menu features an outstanding royal quail tajine with Berber spices.

Café Ô Tajine
Ô Tajine is a friendly, charming café serving authentic Moroccan cuisine. We’re very fond of their Moroccan breakfast formula — but even more so of their delicious tajines. Several options are available: lamb merguez, braised beef, lamb shank, chicken with preserved lemon and green olives, and even a vegetarian tajine.

La Rose des Sables
La Rose des Sables is one of our favorite bring-your-own-wine restaurants. Located in the heart of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, the address offers cuisine with Tunisian and Mediterranean influences. The menu features delicious couscous, salads, grilled meats, ojja — the traditional egg-and-tomato dish — and of course, tajines (vegetable, chicken, or lamb). We love this spot for its comforting plates.

La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade
La Khaïma is a warm little Plateau address that transports you the moment you step inside. Set in a beautiful décor reminiscent of a nomadic tent — designed by the Mauritanian owner — guests sit on colorful cushions around low tables and enjoy truly excellent food. The Maghrebi cuisine here is generous and fragrant, with comforting, homemade-tasting tajines and couscous. A convivial, transporting, and truly unique experience in Montreal.
