RENOIR restaurant is the chic and delicious restaurant of the Sofitel Montréal Le Carré Doré hotel, right in the heart of downtown Montreal. On March 24, 2025, RENOIR reopened its doors with a brand new energy, immersing guests in a refined world where classic French gastronomy blends with the unique character of Quebec products. This rebranding, which breathes modernity while honoring the heritage of the place, pays tribute to its history while firmly anchoring it in the present day with its brand new cocktail lounge: NINI.

Art at the Heart of the Experience

The name RENOIR, a tribute to painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, does more than evoke an iconic artist — it embodies the elegance and precision found in Chef Olivier Perret’s cuisine. The décor, like the food, is a work of art in itself, inspired by the Impressionist movement with its shades of blue, gold, and green. The connection to art is felt in every detail, from the choice of materials to the lighting that plays with textures and volumes. Every dish served at RENOIR is a canvas, every bite an emotion, prepared with meticulous attention to flavors and presentation.

Sophisticated Gastronomy

RENOIR’s culinary offering is a perfect balance between French gastronomic tradition and local Quebec products. Executive Chef Olivier Perret joined the team in June 2011, having previously worked at the Sofitel in Washington DC and Chicago before settling in Montreal. Originally from Burgundy, he is a perfect example that one can be an outstanding chef while remaining humble. His vision was to create a restaurant with French-inspired cuisine carrying a Quebec accent — RENOIR is considered one of Montreal’s finest French restaurants. “I always want to create a connection between French gastronomy and Quebec terroir. It’s important to me to offer a French-influenced menu while working with local products and local talent.” Standout menu items include the torchon foie gras with house-made brioche, blueberries, and haskap berries; pork shoulder from Ferme Gaspor in Mirabel with Canadian lobster; and herb-crusted scallops with beurre blanc. Desserts are crafted by pastry chef Paul Peyrat.

NINI Cocktail Lounge

Right next door, the NINI cocktail lounge invites guests into an entirely different yet equally refined experience. NINI pays homage to Nini Lopez, Renoir’s muse, through its chic and intimate ambiance. The menu features a selection of creative cocktails showcasing local spirits. Word has it that the Baiser de NINI — made with Quebec gin, raspberries, dry vermouth, and maple syrup — is a must-try. The Claire de Lune, a blend of Pineau des Charentes, honey and orange blossom syrup, and Prosecco, is equally enticing.

A Whole New Atmosphere

RENOIR is a luxurious establishment. Its décor is airy, chic, and comfortable. Tables are dressed in white linen, and the comfortable seating allows guests to fully enjoy a long, leisurely gastronomic evening — the quality of the cuisine naturally invites lingering. The atmosphere is calm, and the staff courteous and professional. The address appears on our lists of restaurants where you can actually hear yourself talk and among Montreal’s best upscale dining destinations. It is also featured in our guide to Montreal’s most beautiful terraces.

The space has been reimagined to create an immersive experience. The team at 2pir Design orchestrated a décor where natural light, golden textures, and soft hues come together in a warm and modern ambiance. The opening onto the terrace, with its full-front glass bay, floods the space with light. Whether for an elegant dinner in the dining room, a relaxing moment in the solarium, or a lively evening at NINI, each space offers a distinct yet cohesive experience. And be sure not to miss their brunch — absolutely unmissable!

After 22 years in existence, RENOIR has evolved to meet the expectations of a clientele seeking both sophistication and warmth. The reopening of RENOIR is a promise: that of an incredible culinary experience, uniting the best of tradition and innovation, in a sublime setting where art and gastronomy become one.
