Located in the heart of the Plateau, Kazo Ramen brings an authentic touch to Montreal’s ramen scene. Open since mid-September 2024, this cozy 20-seat establishment offers a dining experience true to Japanese traditions while featuring a variety of original flavors to delight ramen enthusiasts. It has rightfully earned a spot on our list of the best ramen in Montreal!

After opening their first location in LaSalle two years ago, owners Ryan Huang and Marco Zhou chose the Plateau to attract a younger clientele.

At Kazo Ramen, it all starts with the broths. Crafted using traditional methods, these broths require hours of cooking to develop their complex flavors. The chef emphasizes: “We only use the best quality ingredients, and everything is 100% homemade.” From creamy tonkotsu to whole chicken broth and clear broths made with beef and vegetables, each soup is meticulously prepared with love. Special mention goes to the spicy sesame Tan Tan noodles, which are topped with cha shu (Japanese-style braised pork belly) and ground pork, among other delicious ingredients. However, don’t overlook the clear broth-based soups—they’re delightful and packed with umami flavors!

Beyond ramen, the menu includes equally enticing sides. The karaage, crispy fried chicken served with a mildly spicy citrus mayo, is already a customer favorite. Another standout feature at Kazo is the noodles: thin ones paired with creamy broths and thick ones for the clear soups, both made entirely in-house.

You don’t go to Kazo Ramen for the décor, which is simple yet charming, with a wall adorned with manga posters and figurines. Here, the focus is on the diversity of broths and the quality of ingredients, proving that ramen can go far beyond the classic tonkotsu. For a comforting and authentic meal, Kazo Ramen is an address you must try.

Enjoy your discovery!
