Some openings get people talking. And then there are those we’re already ready to crown as classics. In March 2026, the family behind Arthur’s Nosh Bar opened Arthur’s Dinette on Monkland — a little sister designed for the neighbourhood, carrying the same signature that made their Saint-Henri address such a hit. Behind the project are Raegan Steinberg and Alex Cohen, the duo behind Romies, Arthur’s Nosh Bar, and Dirty Greens. With this new chapter, the couple delivers once again. Already one of our neighbourhood favourites — no surprise there.
Why Monkland?
Choosing NDG was no coincidence. Having lived in the area, Raegan and Alex felt the absence of a true neighbourhood restaurant — a real home-away-from-home on Monkland. A place you can walk to, settle into, and return to often. A space reminiscent of the small French bakeries and bistros that shaped their childhood memories along the avenue. Arthur’s Dinette fills exactly that gap. The neighbourhood needed a new staple.
Arthur’s Dinette, all day long
For now, Arthur’s Dinette is only open in the evenings as the team finds its footing, but all-day service is expected to launch soon.
Good news for fans: the daytime menu will stay true to the spirit of the original Arthur’s. Signature favourites like the smorgesborg, eggs and salami, and the MacArthur will all be there. A few additions will distinguish the new location, including Raegan’s famous salads and possibly some Monkland-exclusive signature dishes — but the brunch DNA will remain intact. Stay tuned for the official brunch launch date.
Once the sun sets, everything changes. Arthur’s Dinette introduces a completely distinct evening menu exploring the Jewish culinary diaspora and the roots of Alex and Raegan. It’s a concept Alex has been developing for years and that finally finds its full expression here. He leads the kitchen — something especially meaningful to him as he’s long wanted the freedom to fully explore his culinary creativity.
Starters range from harissa-grilled jumbo shrimp to Sicilian-style halibut crudo, chicken liver with grape jelly, Spanish omelette escabèche, and the highly anticipated return of their pierogis (!!), served here with sour cream, medjool date purée, and semi-soft cheese. For mains, the pickle-brined schnitzel shares the spotlight with a 9-oz prime rib with chickpeas and pomegranate, wild sea bass with poblano peppers and wild garlic, and a generously stacked double cheeseburger. For dessert, chocolate mousse and Arthur’s cheesecake close the meal. The menu features staples but evolves with the seasons, guided by inspiration and product availability.
Built on love
Raegan describes Arthur’s Dinette as a true labour of love. The challenge? Creating a space that feels familiar to Arthur’s regulars while establishing a distinct personality of its own. Alex and Raegan have created something bright, welcoming, and deeply homey. A relaxed and delicious destination. Two dinner seatings designed around the rhythm of the neighbourhood (5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.), with the idea that everyone is home by around 11 p.m.
The décor by Leslie Katz is beautiful: butter-yellow walls, long comfortable banquettes, and a stunning ten-seat bar. Photos of Alex and Raegan’s families line the walls — a tribute to their roots and cultural heritage.
With Arthur’s Dinette, Monkland has just gained the address it was always missing. Enjoy!
