In the heart of Villeray, at 300 Jarry Street East, 123Dzo draws in the curious and the food-loving with its catchy name – “dzô,” a joyful exclamation, means “cheers!” in Vietnamese. This modern Vietnamese restaurant doesn’t just impress with its original décor – colorful walls, neon touches, and a striking mural at the back – but also with its carefully crafted cuisine. The owners have managed to create a setting that is both bold and welcoming, designed for gathering friends, families, and colleagues around the table.

Almost everything you’ll find on the menu here is different from what you usually see at other Vietnamese spots in Montréal. For instance, 123Dzo offers just one traditional soup (rare beef and beef ball pho) – yes, you read that right, only one! And their imperial rolls? Tiny, crispy, and deliciously small. We’ll take that over oversized, forgettable rolls any day.

The menu – introduced by the server as “a series of Vietnamese tapas, with two or three choices per person recommended” – is designed for sharing, with each plate meant to be a little discovery. Among the starred items on the menu, the chicken wings, grilled scallops, and silken tofu bites stand out, each served with a distinct and flavorful sauce. The sizzling beef cubes arrive at the table bursting with aromas, while the house green papaya and dried beef salad makes for a refreshing and delicious starter.

Beyond the food, the service truly enhances the experience. The team reflects the spirit of the place: attentive, efficient, and always smiling, guiding both newcomers and regulars through the menu, suggesting pairings with cocktails, and ensuring everything flows smoothly. A special mention goes to Mr. Dien Ho, whose presence makes the visit even more memorable.

At 123Dzo, you don’t just come to eat – you come for a convivial, festive, and slightly exotic experience. The house has succeeded in blending original flavors, bold décor, and flawless service. The result is an essential address for anyone who wants to travel without leaving Montréal and raise a glass in good company. When the weather allows, the large front windows open onto the street, adding yet another layer of pleasure to the evening.

On the night of our visit, the room was filled with diners as happy as we were to have chosen 123Dzo. We wish you the same joy at this address.
