Spedzira is the charming coffee and sandwich counter opened by three friends and former colleagues — Stefano, Luca, and Alan — on Ontario Street East in the Hochelaga neighbourhood. Together, they bring over 60 years of experience in the industry, and you can taste it in every bite.
The trio chose this corner of the neighbourhood to launch their very first project together, recognizing the potential in an area still lacking quality Italian sandwich shops. The result: an unpretentious spot where everything is made with heart and skill.
Spedzira’s specialty? Sandwiches, of course — and the best ones are named after the owners. The Stefano is a generous stack of capicollo, sopressata, provolone, marinated vegetables, arugula, and spicy mayo. The Luca — our personal favourite! — combines features mortadella, provolone, grilled peppers, arugula, and a flavourful pesto mayo. The Alonzo goes for simplicity with turkey, tomatoes, pickled onions, arugula, and aioli mayo. All sandwiches are served on bread from Boulangerie San Pietro: crisp on the outside, perfectly soft on the inside — a real treat.
To go with it all, we’re hooked on their house-made lemonade, prepared to order — perfect for hot summer days. You’ll also find fresh juices, smoothies, and indulgent desserts like bomboloni and cornetti. Around here, indulgence knows no bounds.
And the prices are just as generous as the portions: classic sandwiches at $10, signature creations starting at $14.25, and salads ranging from $11 to $13 — all taxes included. That’s just one of the reasons Spedzira made our list of the best takeout spots in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve!
Spedzira is the perfect place for a quick and tasty lunch… but also for your events! The counter now offers catering services, including gorgeous charcuterie and cheese platters — ideal for parties or office meetings.
And there’s more: last March, the trio opened Marché Spedzira right next door. There, you’ll find a great selection of homemade dishes and Italian products to take home. A perfect way to bring the Spedzira experience right to your fridge.
We hope you’ll enjoy this place as much as we do. Salute!
