If you’ve ever lined up outside the original Nouilles de Lan Zhou in Chinatown for a steaming bowl of hand-pulled noodles, you already know exactly why we’re so excited to tell you about this new opening. One of the most popular spots in the neighbourhood since 2014 has just opened a second location at the corner of Saint-Denis and Mont-Royal.
The new space stands out with its modern, minimalist design and a more open layout than the Saint-Laurent location. The setup revolves around a fully open kitchen, where you can watch artisans stretch the dough by hand with hypnotic precision while woks flare up just a few feet from your table. The show is an integral part of the experience—and it’s honestly hard to look away. It’s a design choice that pays tribute to the craft behind each bowl. At Lan Zhou, the freshness of the noodles has always been the house signature, and being able to observe every step of the process in such a clear, open setting only reinforces that promise.
The same noodles we love
Good news for regulars: you’ll find the same menu here as at the original restaurant. The star remains the Lanzhou beef noodle soup, served in a fragrant broth with slices of beef, vegetables, and fresh cilantro. Portions are just as generous—a single bowl can easily satisfy two people.
You’ll also find braised beef tendon noodles, stir-fried noodles, a vegetarian option, as well as a selection of starters and sides. As always, you can choose the thickness of your noodles and your preferred level of spice. All at prices that remain among the most reasonable in the city for such authentic, high-quality cuisine.
A welcome expansion
Since Ming opened the first Nouilles de Lan Zhou in Chinatown more than a decade ago, the address has never stopped drawing crowds. The lines spilling onto the sidewalk have become legendary, and the quality has never wavered. The neighbourhood gains a standout addition, and fans of fresh noodles will be more than satisfied. Enjoy!
