- Coffee shop Sandwich shop
Every time we pass through Quebec City, it’s a must: we stop at Franky Johnny to devour one of their decadent sandwiches. Since last July, the iconic sandwich shop of the capital has opened a second location in Limoilou—an excellent excuse to go twice as often!
The new spot is on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 11th Street, where the Beau Soir convenience store once stood. While the decor is more modern and bright, with a few extra seats, the concept remains the same: a sandwich counter, Cantook Micro Roastery coffees, and Borderon & fils‘ exceptional breads all under one roof.
For this new venture, the original partners, Jonathan Marcoux (Johnny) and François Borderon from Borderon & fils bakery (Franky), are joined by Mathieu Bélanger.
If you’ve never tasted a Franky Johnny sandwich, let us tempt you: generous, house-made fillings served on a choice of focaccia or baguette (from Borderon & fils, of course), all dripping with homemade sauces. The pork belly banh mi is a guaranteed hit, featuring two hefty slices of 48-hour confit Quebec pork belly, homemade mayo and BBQ sauce, pickled carrots and daikon, and cilantro—a burst of bold flavors in every bite. For vegetarians, there’s a tofu version with sunflower mayo and cilantro on the menu as well. Another must-try is the “Gros Mac,” inspired by the famous sandwich from the golden arches.
We also love the prices—every sandwich is under $15, a steal considering their gargantuan size!
The new location is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Franky Johnny also offers catering services for your parties or business lunches, and delivery is available via Uber Eats.
Enjoy the discovery!
