Looking for a fun and affordable night out in the West Island? Look no further—Bernies Pizza Martini Bar in Dollard-des-Ormeaux is the place to be!

Opened in August 2024, Bernies is the brainchild partners Jordan Biberkraut (the man behind Hang Time Pizza and Pigeon Coffee), Steven Murray (former Burger Fiancé owner), and bartender Nicole Drexler.

The colourful and eclectic decor, in shades of orange, black, and forest green with touches of gold, is halfway between a tavern and a kitschy, old-school Italian restaurant. The walls are covered with frames: vintage posters featuring pizzas and martinis, found artworks, mirrors, and family mementos, including several photos of Bernie, Jordan’s father, who inspired the restaurant’s name.

Pizza and Martinis

Bernies serves a tavern-style menu: thin-crust pizzas, sliders, cheesy garlic rolls, chicken wings, Caesar salad, and so on. It’s worth mentioning that the pizzas, priced between $19 and $29, are also available gluten-free or lactose-free for a small extra charge. It’s not haute cuisine, but the portions are generous, and the flavours are comforting. The cheesy garlic rolls, made with real King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls, really pulled on our nostalgic (and cheesy) string.

As the name “Pizza Martini Bar” suggests, the place also specializes in martinis, offering about a dozen variations on the menu. These have playful names, like the Dill-ightful (with pickle juice and dill), the Dirty Margtini (with tequila, triple sec, and olive brine), or the Gin & Grove (gin, grapefruit juice, and rosemary syrup). Of course, if you prefer a more classic martini, or even a negroni or spritz for that matter, Nicole and he bar staff will gladly whip one up for you.

With seating for around 80 people and large, comfortable booths, Bernies is the perfect spot for family gatherings, work parties, or a night out with friends. The restaurant also offers outdoor parking and is easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs—one of the perks of being outside of downtown.

Cheers!
