Outaouais: The best restaurants in the region

edgar outaouais

Located in Western Quebec, the region owes its name to the Ottawa River and benefits from a unique geographical location in Canada. Only a two-hour drive from Montreal, the Outaouais region takes advantage of its proximity to Ottawa to offer a wide range of activities all year round.

Today, we’re proposing some gourmet discoveries to enjoy the best the region has to offer. A great excuse to go on an adventure, disconnect and take a well-deserved break from these hectic months.

Outaouais is the perfect balance between the hustle and bustle of the city and the calm of nature. You’ll be able to recharge your batteries thanks to this superb natural area, including the famous Gatineau Park, which offers beautiful walks and hikes with several breathtaking viewpoints. In total, there are over 33,000 square kilometres of nature to explore in the region! Among these natural wonders, discover Mont Morissette Regional Park, Parc des Montagnes Noires de Ripon, Plaisance Falls, the Forêt-la-Blanche Ecological Reserve and much more.

The region also offers a wide range of gourmet addresses that are well worth the trip. From the must-try brunch in Gatineau to the famous wine bar run by renowned sommelier Véronique Rivest to the region’s iconic casse-croûte, Outaouais is full of local gourmet addresses that will make your visit memorable.

Without further ado, here are our favourite addresses in Outaouais:

Soif Bar à vin

Soif Bar à Vin is certainly a place to stop if you are in the area. The establishment has everything to please: passionate people, excellent wines, and delicious dishes, all in a beautiful setting. Behind the establishment is the very talented Véronique Rivest, a famous sommelier who has won many awards for her work. We come here to discover exceptional wines, enjoy a cocktail or a beer, accompanied by delicious plates to share.

Restaurant Les Fougeres

Any Chelsea resident will tell you that Les Fougères is the place to go for a memorable dinner. Plus, it’s on the 2020 list of Canada’s top 100 restaurants. Here, the menu is as enticing as the decor is beautiful. The two work in perfect harmony, since the cuisine is inspired by the seasonal products grown directly in the restaurant’s garden. The menu includes beautiful garden-inspired plates, delicate fish and meat dishes, as well as charcuterie boards and wood-fired pizzas. The address is unique: imagine vast gardens, a forested path, a vegetable garden, a screened-in veranda and an art gallery; an idyllic setting for an extraordinary outing. A must on your Outaouais address list.

Palmier

Palmier

Palmier is the caffeinated oasis in the mountains of the charming village of Chelsea where you can stop for a delicious third wave coffee. It’s not just for the great coffee, but also for the great view from the terrace overlooking the mountains.

La Pataterie Hulloise

A must in the region, the Pataterie Hulloise is a classic Quebec casse-croûte as we like them. The address satisfies any craving for Quebec fast food: poutine, burger, hot dog and other chip truck classics. Founded in 1982, the Pataterie Hulloise has quickly become one of the region’s favourite cases-croûtes, with a menu that can be eaten in or taken away. In the summer, enjoy their delicious poutine on their charming, brightly coloured terrace.
