In Montreal, tucked away on Sherbrooke Street West, in the heart of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Restaurant Bok is one of those spots locals tend to keep to themselves. Since 2015, this small family-run establishment has been serving authentic Sino-Korean cuisine — a culinary tradition spanning over a century, born from the meeting of Chinese flavors and Korean palates.

At Bok, everything is made in-house. The noodles and dumplings are handmade, and you can taste the difference. The menu focuses on the great classics of junghwa yori: comforting, generous dishes that keep you coming back. The place doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is — a neighborhood restaurant where you simply eat well.

The jajangmyeon is the undeniable star: noodles coated in a rich, velvety black bean sauce. Order it as a combo with tangsuyuk — crispy fried pork glazed in a sweet and sour sauce — and you’ve got the regulars’ favorite pairing. The jjamppong, a spicy seafood soup, is just as compelling, especially the rosé version featured on the menu. For dessert, the Biscoff bingsoo is a crowd-pleaser. We loved everything we tried. The dishes are made with care, and it shows. A gem we took far too long to discover.

The atmosphere is relaxed and fairly quiet, with K-pop playing in the background. Service is generally quick and warm — you can tell it’s a family affair. The decor is humble, simple, and clean — not the reason you come here, but the flavors are more than worth the visit.

Bok welcomes everyone from solo diners to families, and the terrace is a great bonus in warmer weather. With reasonable prices, generous portions, and flavors that hit straight to the heart, Bok is not to be missed.
