In the charming Sainte-Dorothée neighborhood of Laval, a breath of fresh air has arrived with Bungalo, a café that’s quickly becoming the new local gathering spot. The area already had plenty to love, but it was missing that cozy place where you feel at home—a spot to read, work, or simply take a break. It’s already one of our favorite addresses in Laval!
Kattie and Fred, both graphic designers who have lived on the North Shore for 20 years, felt that same void. “While volunteering at my daughter’s school, I realized it was a shame that all these wonderful people didn’t have a place to meet,” Kattie recalls. They dreamed of creating a neighborhood café just steps from home, bringing the same sense of community they once knew in Montréal to their new neighborhood. That’s how Bungalo was born—a nod to the cozy little house and the comfort of home. The idea simmered for nearly three years before they finally found the perfect space.
Coffee, Treats & Smoked Meat
At Bungalo, coffee takes center stage. The menu features beans from Montréal roaster Zab, served up as lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, cortados, flat whites, mochas, dirty chais, or drip coffee. Iced coffee lovers will find their match in iced lattes, cold brew, espresso tonics, or iced matcha. For something different, golden milk, London fog, and chai lattes also make the cut. Don’t miss the homemade iced teas, available in refreshing seasonal blends like mango & coconut, peach & ginger, or grapefruit & rosemary.
On the sweet side, it’s hard to resist the scones from Café Paquebot (chocolate, hazelnut, and caramel), perfect with your morning cup. Heartier appetites can dig into grilled cheeses made with bread from Les 3 Galo’Pains bakery in Saint-Eustache: the classic, ham & cheese, deluxe coco (egg, ham, and cheese), or goat cheese & honey. Fridays are reserved for the much-loved smoked meat grilled cheese, served with pickles, chips, and mustard—an event known as “Smoked Meat Fridays.”
For a lighter option, Kattie also makes Greek yogurt pots with maple syrup, chia seeds, homemade berry compote, and almond muesli—a wholesome snack that hits the spot.
A Place That Feels Like Home
The décor, with its wood accents and warm colors, radiates conviviality. Large tables invite conversation, and every detail is designed to make you want to come back again and again.
With Bungalo, Kattie and Fred are offering far more than just coffee: they’ve created a true community hub for Sainte-Dorothée. A place that, true to its name, makes you want to settle in… and never leave.
