Located in L’île-Perrot, the restaurant Smoke Meat Pete is a hidden gem that attracts smoked meat enthusiasts from all around. Founded four decades ago, this establishment has managed to preserve the tradition of smoked meat while adding its own distinctive touch.
Smoke Meat Pete’s story started in 1976. After working 20 years alongside his father at Main Deli on Saint-Laurent Boulevard (which closed down in 2023, much to our chagrin), Peter Varvaro decided to strike out on his own in the West Island. Since then, it has become a classic in its own right.
As soon as you step through the door of Smoke Meat Pete, the enticing smell of smoked meat cooking charms you. The rustic decor of the restaurant creates a warm ambiance, almost reminiscent of old blues bars. The walls are adorned with photos telling the story of the place, while jazz music resonates in the background, adding a nostalgic touch to the experience.
The undisputed star of the menu here is the smoked meat, which is unsurprisingly featured on our list of the best-smoked meats. The meat is carefully prepared, marinated in secret spices, and then slow-cooked and smoked until it reaches perfect tenderness. Every bite is a festival of flavours! Smoke Meat Pete’s menu is not limited to smoked meat, though. Fans of Southern U.S. cuisine will be delighted to discover a selection of barbecue dishes, ranging from juicy ribs to tasty smoked sausages. Generous portions ensure that no one leaves the restaurant with an unsatisfied appetite.
A lively experience
The relaxed atmosphere of Smoke Meat Pete makes it an ideal place to gather with friends or family. The friendly and attentive staff adds to the experience, creating a welcoming and convivial atmosphere. Regulars of the restaurant never fail to highlight the quality of service, emphasizing the team’s commitment to providing a delightful experience for everyone dining here.
In addition to delicious cuisine, Smoke Meat Pete regularly hosts lively evenings with local musicians, adding a touch of entertainment to the night. This makes this place more than just a restaurant; it’s a destination where one comes to savour life and good food without any hassle. Smoke Meat Pete is a true institution when it comes to smoked meat and definitely deserves a detour if you happen to cross the Galipeault Bridge.
