On June 23, 2022, Nikkei officially opened its doors, and it has served cuisine blending the culinary traditions of Japan and Peru ever since. Nikkei is a popular term meaning “of Japanese origin.” The nikkeijin, emigrants of Japanese descent and their descendants living outside Japan, are especially numerous in Peru. The country saw a large wave of Japanese immigration from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

In the culinary world, the term nikkei refers to the fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines. That is exactly what this new spot on Laurier Avenue East offers.

A Menu That Sparks Curiosity

Montrealers may not be familiar with this style of cuisine, but the opposite is true for Peruvians, as the fusion has been on the rise in their country for several years. On the menu: Tiradito Kyuri, Bacalao Sarusa, Nigiri de res, Tostada de Atún and more.

A Chic, Laid-Back Atmosphere

Nikkei is a restaurant with a certain Zen calm, set in a chic and relaxed atmosphere. For the decor and layout of the space, the owners called on the team at Rebel Design. The open kitchen, velvet banquettes, neon lights and burnt-wood bar give the restaurant a chic, hushed and relaxed feel.

Fusion Cocktails and Sake

Jeremy Escolano, a mixologist, looks after the drinks side of your visit to Nikkei and offers superb cocktails. Nikkei’s menu also includes a selection of sakes, wines and beers.

Head to this lovely spot on Laurier Avenue East for an extraordinary culinary experience.

Enjoy the discovery!
