L’Épave Bistro Marina: Where to Treat Yourself in Mauricie

On the banks of the Saint-Maurice River, an old logger’s shed has found a new, festive, and flavourful life: welcome to L’Épave Bistro Marina.

The name says it all: L’Épave (“The Wreck”) is a waterfront refuge where you pull in with friends to grab a bite, raise a glass, and enjoy the moment—with your feet in the water. The décor, both rustic and steeped in history, evokes a maritime past: weathered wood, fishing nets, touches from old wrecked ships… Everything’s in place to transport you.

But L’Épave is, above all, a story of revival. The space has seen many ventures over the years, until the pandemic hit and forced its closure in 2020. Two years later, a new team brought the iconic site back to life. Leading the charge: a group of passionate individuals, including the late chef Martin Lampron, who played a central role in rebooting the project. The concept? A reinvented nautical canteen—designed for gathering, celebrating, and eating well.

Halfway Between a Vacation and a Riverside Party

The vibe is relaxed and joyful. The terrace, with its stunning view of the marina and the Saint-Maurice River, is without question the perfect spot to unwind and, quite literally, run aground.

Feasting with Your Feet in the Water

In the kitchen, chef Alexis Bordeleau—an ITHQ graduate with experience at restaurants like Toqué—crafts a seasonal, house-made menu. He focuses on local products, sourcing from nearby farms to offer a cuisine rooted in the Mauricie region.

On the plate, wood-fired pizza is a must, alongside specialties like burrata and ever-changing boards based on the day’s arrivals and the chef’s inspiration. You’ll also find a few comforting classics, like poutine, to satisfy every craving.

As for Drinks

The bistro offers a fine selection of privately imported wines, a variety of cocktails, and local beers from Le Trou du Diable—perfect for a meal on the terrace overlooking the river.

A Little Slice of Paradise

L’Épave is nestled in the nautical centre of Grandes-Piles — that quiet village in Mauricie that’s well worth a visit, with camping, sailing lessons, a museum, and boat outings. This particular “wreck” is a true culinary gateway to exploring the region. By partnering with local farms and showcasing homegrown products, the team hopes to make this corner of the province shine — one plate at a time.
