In 2026, this address earned a Star in the MICHELIN Guide Quebec.
Hoogan et Beaufort opened in December 2015 on the edge of the Rosemont neighbourhood, inside the Shops Angus. The superb restaurant, run by one of Montreal’s finest chefs, has been hosting delectable moments in good company ever since.
A Space Steeped in History
Hoogan and Beaufort were two farmers who sold their land to the Canadian Pacific Railways company in 1879 to make way for the Shops Angus. Working with the Technopôle Angus, Hoogan et Beaufort set up an urban architecture project so it could grow part of the produce used in the kitchen. The building that houses the restaurant is a former plant where trains were built and refitted, which gives the room a definite charm. “What struck us here was the character of the space, the history behind the walls,” says chef and co-owner Marc-André Jetté.
A Powerhouse Team
Marc-André Jetté is a major Montreal chef, one of the best in the city. After time behind the stoves at the restaurant Laloux and the restaurant 400 Coups, Marc-André took on two projects close to his heart: his catering company Marc-André Le Traiteur — high-end catering — and his restaurant Hoogan et Beaufort.
The Hoogan et Beaufort Aesthetic
The restaurant Hoogan et Beaufort seats 70: “We had the space for 100, but I wanted a more intimate restaurant, more of a neighbourhood place, comfortable and welcoming,” explains Marc-André. The decor was created by the firm Appareil Architecture, in collaboration with the talented Alexandre Baldwin. Ceilings 28 feet high, beautiful old train-station lamps, old bistro chairs fully restored — the kind you can sit in comfortably for hours. A mix of modern and old, very well put together. And the kitchen at the centre of it all: “We wanted to put our craft front and centre, we’re proud of it. Wherever you’re sitting, you can see our kitchen,” the chef continues. Six lucky guests can even eat there in the evening and watch the waltz of the kitchen up close. Room for groups, for couples, for families and for every food lover.
Hoogan et Beaufort on the Plate
Marc-André Jetté and his brigade serve delicate plates, giving absolute priority to Quebec products and favouring, as much as possible, cooking in the magnificent wood-fired oven. “People tell me my cooking is often feminine, but it’s that I like things to be fresh, delicate and full of flavour. I don’t like feeling heavy after a meal,” he explains. Expect a few starters on the menu — a lot of vegetables, a few very good pasta dishes and a few mains, with a constant emphasis on vegetables. There’s also a dish to share. A superb menu, full of promise, in a magnificent setting, served by an experienced team: a winning formula. The menu changes regularly. Hoogan et Beaufort also has a magnificent terrace that appears on our list of the most beautiful restaurant terraces in Montreal.
On the wine side, the list is signed by sommelier Hugo Duchesne, named Quebec’s best sommelier in 2020 and recipient of the 2026 MICHELIN Sommelier Award. Expect very fine references, most of them private imports. The restaurant also offers a wide selection of Quebec craft beers.
For all these reasons, this establishment appears on our list of the essential restaurants and institutions of Montreal!
