Gourmet Tours of Greek Cuisine in Montreal’s Mile End

Update 12 November 2019   |    Published on 12 November 2019

Gourmet Tours of Greek Cuisine in Montreal – The TASTET x Montréal en Lumière Gourmet Tours are back, and just in time for the impending holiday season! With the help of your feedback from 2019, the TASTET team has prepared six new and exciting themes for this year’s tours. This time around, you are invited to discover the worlds of saké, “real wine”, hidden bars, Greek cuisine, Chinese cuisine, and Italian cuisine in Montreal.

For the 2020 edition of the Montreal en Lumière Festival, you are invited to join us in the discovery of Montreal’s Greek culinary scene and enjoy an afternoon of wonderful Mediterranean flavours. This tour will be stopping at all the right spots, each one transporting you away from the cold Montreal winter and into the heart of Athens, the olive groves of Crete, or the beaches of Mykonos. On this tour, you will discover five of our favourite Greek addresses in the Mile-End, all of which are among the best Greek restaurants in Montreal. You will learn about Greek cuisine as well as the history behind each address we visit, get a chance to engage with the staff of each restaurant and to taste specialty Greek dishes of all kinds. Restaurant critic Jean-Philippe Tastet will be your guide throughout this Greek-Montreal gourmet getaway.

Excited for their return Excited for their return delphi variétés

Delphi Variety

221 Avenue Fairmount O, Montréal, Montreal, QC, Canada

Also a post office, Delphi Variété was one of the first Greek convenience stores to open in the Mile-End neighbourhood. But Delphi Variété isn’t just any convenience store – it’s the type of shop most people can only dream of having at the corner of their street. A highlight of the establishment is most definitely the friendly owners, who offer a wide selection of imported olive oils from Greece which they select themselves.

They're open! They're open! Melina phyllo bar montreal

Phyllo Bar Melina

5733 Av du Parc, Montréal, QC H2V 4H2, Canada

Phyllo Bar Melina is a lovely address located on Avenue du Parc, specializing in Greek classics at low prices. Inside the small Greek inspired premises, Melina offers her customers a menu of delicious homemade dishes. We suggest trying the spanakopitas, the house’s speciality, which come in several different flavours. The address is very inviting, and the perfect place  to enjoy the flavours of the Mediterranean in the heart of the Mile-End.

Excited for their return Excited for their return petros

Petros Laurier

234 Avenue Laurier O, Montréal, Montreal, QC H2T 2N8, Canada

Restaurant Petros  is a great spot to have on youur radar if you love classic Greek cuisine. The establishment, located on Notre-Dame Street West, is one of the best bring-your-own-wine restaurants in the city. At Petros, you can enjoy exceptionally fresh fish and a variety of other dishes, all at affordable prices. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming, and the decor will make you feel as though you are actually dining in Greece. Note that Petros also has another location in Westmount.

Philinos

4806 Avenue du Parc

The word “Philinos” actually means “friends of wine”, so it comes as no surprise that this restaurant embodies the essence of Greek hospitality. The atmosphere of the restaurant is comfortable and relaxed, and the menu is simply excellent. This is where we come to enjoy the best lamb chops in town! The entire menu is influenced by Mediterranean cuisine and made from fresh ingredients. In addition to the lamb, we like their squid, grilled meats, Moussaka and tartines. The dishes here are simple but incredibly delicious.

Excited for their return Excited for their return Milos restaurant institution Montréal

Milos

5357 Av du Parc, Montréal

As the most chic Greek restaurant in Montreal, Milos is a true institution of our city’s gourmet landscape. Restaurant Milos has seen so much success since they opened several years ago that they have since opened addresses in London, New York, Athens, Las Vegas and Miami. After completely remodelling their dining room,  Milos now welcomes its diners into a stunning and luxurious space. From appetizer to dessert, the dishes here are characterized by the extreme freshness of the ingredients.  Although restaurant Milos is definitely on the expensive side, it should be noted that they offer reduced prices at lunchtime and at the end of the evening!
